I'm looking for some opinions before I get the chance to go to my local gun shop. I want to buy a glock in 45 acp and am trying to decide between the 21 and the 30. I have the glock 23 and it's awesome, but they don't have a 45 that's the same size. The 21 is bigger and the 30 is smaller. What are some of your opinions. I just joined and this is my first post. Thanks for any help/ advice

Either one in SF or Gen4. The 30sf is closest in size to your 23.

If youre will to stray from ACP, the G38 is the same size.

Go with the 30SF or Gen4 30, hands down a fantastic gun, shoots so smooth and is very easy to carry...I love my 30SF best glock I own...

Both the 30 and 36 are very close to the 23 in size. They are not the same size as the 26/27

My biggest concern with a G21 and G30 is they are very different in balance and feel do to weight and size. The G30 and the G23 are similar but they are also worlds apart. I have tried the G30 ownership twice but O felt like I was learning a new weapon systems. I have borrowed a friends G36 for a long period of time to find it enjoyable, just not enough going for it to carry over a G19/23.

I have a 21 Gen 4.
Before buying it, I shot a 17, 21, 22, 23, 26, and 27.
For the purposes that I wanted it (range and home defense - did not buy to carry), both my son and I ended up with a 21 each.
Hands down an awesome weapon and much more fun to shoot.
On top of that, as I jokingly say, if for some reason you run out of ammo, throw it at the perp and it will kill them with its solid weight.
Of course, this is just my humble opinion but, 21 all the way!!!

I've not handled any Gen 4 models yet, but, the Gen 3 21 is quite a handful (OK for me, as I have large hands), but otherwise an excellent pistol and gentle to shoot.

Unless you are completely captivated by the Glock 21's mag capacity, I'd also check out the M&P45,the 10+1 grip of which feels ever so trim by comparison.

I much prefer Glocks in 9mm, but the 45ACP models work well.

The Gen 4 takes care of the concern with the grip as comes smaller, with option to add to it. Major difference in holding a Gen 3 v a 4.

I like the G30 better but that is because it is a bit easier for me to conceal. If I was not going to conceal it or only use it at the range then it would probably be the G21.

It's very hard to beat the G21 Gen 3 or 4! Awesome home & SD gun, it's size is not bad & it's a very soft shooter. I have many glocks & 21 is one that will stay. You got lots of options with the 21 that can make it a fave easy!

Agree on the G21.I love mine as my home defense pistol and i have on occasion carried it concealed and was able to do so without much trouble. 13 rounds of .45acp is very comforting

The 21 is very soft on recoil even with +P loads.

Before I had my G36 I was sure it would have very rough recoil @ 23 ounces. It is actually quite comfortable to me with standard loads, I do not like shooting +P in it though.

Gen4 21. I don't shoot mine enough due to ammo cost, in spite of reloading my own, but when I do, it has never failed to put a smile on my face. It's a soft shooting laser.

Gen 4 G21 carried in an X-Concealment IWB.
Good luck and stay safe,

If you need or want to conceal it, my vote is the G36, since thickness is so important in a CCW.

If you're going to wear OWB, I like my G21 just as much as my G21SF, and my hands aren't all that big. Size is your friend when you want quick followups.

The Gen3 G21's are an amazing bargain now on Gunbroker now that the SF and the Gen4 are the new girls in town.

Here's a Gen3 G21 with night sights and three mags that went for $375:

But the added capacity and reduced recoil makes it a far better combat weapon than either of the two.

I would go with the G21. Nice big range gun. You already have a good concealed pistol, a big range gun is lots of fun

I think it boils down to 2 questions:

1. What are you using it for, and

2. Where are you going to keep it?

I have a G30SF myself. Like others have said, if you plan on carrying the gun as an EDC/Self Protection, the G30 is better. Much easier to conceal, and still has great round count. I carry mine in a Thiess holster and actually forget I'm wearing it after a while.

If you are planning on using it as a range gun/Home Defense, the G21 might be a better choice. Some have said they even use it as a carry weapon, but I still think the smaller G30 works better in this area.

Either way you are getting a great pistol.

The regular 21 grip feels like a brick in my hand, so I got a G21SF:

put each in your hand and see what one looks back at you and says I want to come home with you, or just buy both, then you will have one for each hand

Have you looked at the G-38? Although it is in 45 GAP and not 45 ACP, the frame is the same size as the Gen 3 G-23 with a slightly wider slide. And with the 4" barrel, GAP ballistics equal, if not very slightly exceed, the 45ACP in a 4" barrel. And don't listen to all the GAP-Haters who will chime in with remarks about the GAP being a solution to a problem that doesn't exist(how do you give a person with average or smaller sized hands 45 ACP ballistics in the Glock smaller frame?) or that ammo is more expensive or hard to find( try using the Internet, like you are now). Most of the GAP haters have never shot one anyway. Besides, the more that choose to ignore this cartridge are like those who disliked the ACP when it tried to equal the 45 Colt in a shorter case.

If you can wait to the first of the year, Glock will be coming out with a new .45 ACP, the Glock 30S. The 30S will have the G36 side and the G30 frame. :wow:

I own both the Gen4 G21 and the Gen3 G30. Was tired of waiting for the Gen4 G30 to be manufactured or released so I bought the Gen3. Both are outstanding weapons. The G30 comes with 10 rd mags but you can use the 13 rd mags from the G21 if you dont mind the magazine extending. The Gen4 G21 has a more narrow grip and feels more comfortable in some hands. Both are accurate, reliable as all Glocks. I would not sell either gun! You'll most likely be happy with either purchase.

Havent played with the 30, but I enjoy my 21. Might give a slight nod to my Sig P220 for fit in my hand, but the 21 capacity is nice!
