View Full Version : 80gr Barnes Tac-Xp 357 sig questions.
Has anyone loaded the 80 gr Tac-XP into the .357 sig? I know Double Tap has them available and I am going to try to replicate their load as close as I can. They are showing 1755 fps out of a 4.5in barrel. Right now I dont have a chrony so I was looking for data that someone has used ( start, max and OAL would be great).

Well, we all know DT exagerates their data a bit, most companies do. I have loaded the 102gr RGS to 1600fps in a 5" gun. They would be sim length bullets. So using 100gr data as a start & work up slowly. I doubt you get 1700fps, then again I doubt DT does either. Without a chrono, you are only guessing.
I do not have experience with bullet and none of manuals list it. It is possble Barnes has a .357sig load with the 80gr bullet in their reloading book however I would verify before buying it. Shoot Barnes an e-mail and see if they can help you out with any data. I see they have one old load in .357sig on their site. I would not push the bullet too hard without verifying with a chrono. A $120 chrono could possibly save you a $500 gun and an injury to yourself.
Yeah I know DT does exaggerate their velocities a bit. I will send an email to Barnes and see what they say. I can probably get a chrony from someone at work. I can't buy one right now, I've picked up a few to many guns lately and my GF would kick my ass. ( She will anyway when she looks in the safe. :whistling: )
If Barnes doesnt give me any info I will probably use the data I have for either the 115 Speed GD or the 100gr frangible I use a lot.
Those 100gr Frangibles the Remingtons that were on sale at Midway?
Yes they are. So far they shoot great.
Mind if I ask what your load is with them? I have a bunch of test loads loaded up with power pistol but did not get to the range to shoot them yet.
DKF I sent you a PM. I will post my results with the Barnes bullets when they arrive. I may try to make some ballistic gel again and try them out.

Sent back at you.
I will be interested what your findings are.:wavey:

I have killed two hogs with this bullet shot from a Glock 31.
If you pm me I'll share the recipe as this is from my own workups and not published data....
My loads chrono'd @ 1751 fps - no joke.
Alliant Power Pistol is the powder of choice.
