Just curious where you keep your Glock pistol while you are sleeping? Do you keep it ready to go? Under the mattress, in a dresser drawer, in a safe or mini vault?

G22 (w/G31 barrel) on the nightstand.

The 12 ga, the 44 carbine, and the 22mag rifle aren't "G's" so I ain't telling.

G24 w/357 sig barrel - In a Glock Sport/Combat Holster next to the bed ready to go, 125gr GDs.

G23 - Next to the G24 ready to roll, 165gr HSTs.

Other guns, strategically placed throughout our place.

The set up of our apartment makes us particularly vunerable to home invasion, so we make sure we can get to something quick.

Until I get an early warning device (dog) I don't leave it on the nightstand. Don't want to arm a burglar if he isn't already, and he might see it before I wake up.

My G22 is in an unzipped rug under the covers next to me. Night sights make it easy to find. I've put it under the mattress before, but it's an awkward pull from in bed.

My G string is in the crack of... never mind.

We were just talking about this at the range the other day. I am surprised to discover that I am far from the only one who sleeps with a gun near his bed. My Glock is underneath my pillow and right next to my hand. (It can get really cold during the wintertime, too!)

I, also, insist that my wife bring her handbag into the bedroom with her at night. I'm trying to train her not to go to bed with a pistol left behind in the living room. (Women tend to have such poor personal security instincts; don't they!) ;)

I was curious to see how many responses would include a gun vault. Although they seem like a good idea, especially with small children around, I would think those lock boxes would would be clumsy to access out of a dead sleep. It also surprised me to read how many guns are holstered, out in the open, for a BG to access before you could.

Thanks again for all of the feedback.

I have a biometric gun vault that I swipe and unlock every night and stays in nightstand with drawer cracked 6 inches. I close vault, then drawer every morning (I have kids).

I would not want to risk it not opening during night if I needed it so I open before crawling Into bed.

What ever I'm carrying that day on my nightstand.

Today it's a G35 with a mag full of JHPs.

No kids at home. Plus we have a dog, a cat and an alarm system.

Open a door or window or break a pane of glass and the alarm goes off.

Suppressed MP-5/40S&W beside nightstand.

Pretty simple.

For me a good handgun safe makes sense. My kids are grown and gone, but have family and friends with kids that can stop by any time and there is never a risk of a gun being accessible to them or anyone else like the cleaning service.

I keep a dedicated HD gun in mine. I like a full size gun and my G17 has served in this role since I bought in new almost 20 years ago. My CCW is a G26 and goes into the big safe at night still holstered in the CBST.

You get both options with a good quality handgun safe, security (bolted down) and quick access. If desired as some have mentioned, you can leave it open at night.

In addition, a holstered handgun on the nighstand will usually take two hands to unholster.

My little 50lbs dog is the best security system. She alerts to everything, including sounds in the yard. She makes sure I am awake so she can show me what's up. She has now scared 3 intruders from the yard in her 8 years (drunken homeless, thank goodness).

I've awoken more than once with a numb arm from sleeping on it -- gotta practice weak hand firing.

I had to deal with bad 'night' planning a couple of weeks ago when I heard sounds downstairs. My gun was with me, but my spare mag was downstairs. The cell phone was downstairs on a charger, so I couldn't have called the cops while hunkering down. I had to walk the house.

I normally leave a light on downsairs, but this night I had decided to save on the electric bill, so it was all inky darkness down there. I turned on the staircase light thinking it would illuminate the downstairs room, but quickly realized I was the only thing well lit, so I turned it out again. I fetched my tactical flashlight, but had to turn my back on the stairs to do it because it was on a closet shelf in the bedroom, instead of next to the bed where it normally is. So now I'm at the top of the stairs with a light source to shoot at, and one mag.

Needless to say I need better planning, and some backup systems. A remote switch that would let me turn lights on downsairs would be good. A dog or alarm system would be better. I have the little stick-on alarms that go off if contact is broken, but all the batteries are dead. Time to review all my procedures.

It is just my wife and I, so the drawer of the nightstand has the pistol, spare mag, and a flashlight laid out in a row right to left. I lay them out the same way when we are in hotel rooms, BTW, so that I can always lay my hands on them instinctively with my eyes half open. The only time it changes is when we have guests, at which times the layout is the same, but I use a GunVault Microvault. (I usually keep the gun box in my car, cabled to the seat, for use when I have to go into post offices, airports, courthouses, and other places that are so incredibly and undeniably safe that there is absolutely no possibility of anyone ever needing a defensive firearm. Yes, that is sarcasm.)

The only way a thug could get to my gun before I do is if he were in bed with me. I am a little too selective of bed partners to allow that (besides I am sure my wife would have strong objections). :embarassed: The gun is stored in a secure manor elsewhere when I am not in bed.

I have a loaded gun in every room of my house. EVERY ROOM. Cheap guns mostly like Ruger P95s, Smith and Wesson 19s etc but they are all dead reliable and ready for any "social" situation that might arise. House gets broken into and they get stolen...no big loss, but they wouldn't be easy to find. My EDC is under my pillow...ready to party at a moments notice. Nice guns are in a Gunsafe that would not be easy to find

I made the mount from some scraps I had laying around the shop and attached a Aker Nightguard holster using the screws that normally secure the holster to the belt loop. Aker link: http://www.akerleather.com/on-duty-holsters.php

So no one else goes to bed wearing nothing but a tactical belt with a drop leg holster on one thigh and spare mags on the other? I just feel silly now.

I'm not the only one!!! :cheerleader:

G30SF loaded on nightstand right next to my bed, alongside a second loaded mag. No little kids around, and my dogs know better. Besides, they would both probably sleep through gunfire.

Bedside is my Hk USP Tatical .45 Var. 3, because it accepts a flash suppressor. A must have IMHO for night/dark shooting. It also has a light/laser on it. I run Cor Bon +P 230 gr. JHP in it.

I have other hand guns stored discretely through the house for quick access from every main room...everything else stays in the safe.

And remember...your hand gun is your only your first defense to getting to your primary weapon.

Glock 23 or 27 sits on the nightstand within about 18" of my head. Mossberg M590A1 leaning up against a bracket attached to the side of my TV cabinet close by.

My carry gun for the day gets to sleep right next to me in an Uncle Mikes fabric-style holster. Surefire on the nightstand next to either a spare mag or speedloader.
