Might not be a "requirement" for some, but I consider them so.

I got mine for $99 and looks like it's on sale again.
The only negative about this, is that the sensors are integral to the unit, and no remote readout. I don't need that, just be careful when you're using it. You can get one with remote readout and/or separate sensors (so if you shoot one, you can replace just that and not the entire unit), but they're more expensive. I don't use one super often, the one I have has been reliable and accurate.

I don't use it every day or even every month. I use it to get the velocity for my ballistics program. I can compute the 'come up' card for various ranges as well as figuring wind drift.

With the USB interface and your laptop, you can have a (bigscreen) remote readout.

Just ask yourself a simple question. Do you really need to know the velocity of the rounds being fired? If yes than get one. If no then it is just a gee whiz sort of thing.
