I was looking at a kimber stainless 2 but it has an extrenal extractor. Gun is in awesome shape price is 640 with 2 mags. Any issues with an external extractor? ive read on another site that kimber will replace slide with an internal extractor for free is that a myth? any input will be helpful i have til september 8 to make up my mind

Some are flawless, and some will give you fits. I would try to talk the guy down a few bucks and buy it. If it has problems Kimber should fix them for you.

I'd heard Kimber Customer service blows but when I did have to send one back they took care of it properly. Being that this is a full size gun it isn't as likely you'd have a major problem. A new Stainless II is around $800 and one in 95% condition is 'worth' $600. If the included mags are OE Kimber they may be useless.

I "fixed" two Kimber external extractor with a simple spring
change. They do very well with Wolff Gun Springs

I wouldn't count on Kimber fixing it if there are issues.

I'd call Kimber and ask them.

As said, some of them work fine, it is, after all, a knockoff of a Glock extractor, but some of them don't.

It is a used gun.

Dwight, IL, police department have been carrying TLE/RL's with the external extractor with Wilson 47Ds for over five years with regular range days and qualifying sessions. Never a problem.

Then that makes them the most foolish Deptartment on the planet!
The Kimber e/e is proven unreliable, heJJ Kimber even gave up on it!

On the other hand, take the errornet drama out of the equation and they are either reliable or they're not. :dunno:

I have a friend that has a Compact Stainless II (45 ACP) with the external extractor. He bought it new years ago and it gave him fits. The extractor would let go of the rim of the case while extracting it from the chamber.

He took it to Dave's Metal Works in Covina, CA where he and Dave did some brainstorming. What they came up with was a contraption like a small recoil spring guide rod and a double concentric spring. This replaced the original spring and pin that puts pressure on the extractor. It's worked like a champ ever since. At that time Dave said it seemed like half of guns with external extractors worked fine and the other half didn't.

Both of my Kimbers are newer models with internal extractors. Although, I have a couple of S&W 1911's and a SiG Arms GSR with external extractors and they work flawlessly. I don't know what it was about the Kimber design that was iffy.
