View Full Version : Springfield mil-spec SS 1911 45ACP
This gun is about a year old with 1000 rounds through it.
As much as it saddens me I'm admitting to myself that I am just not a 1911 guy. So a friend of mine is interested in buying it but I will let him shoot it first.
I'm thinking about $500 for the sell price. Fair? Normal? Great deal?
The ones I see on gun broker that are actually getting bids are around $550-$560.
Gun has original case, papers, 2 original mags and 2 additional mags. Whadddya think?
Was gonna tell you to get a coach but you didn't say you hadn't mastered, just that you weren't "a 1911 guy".
$500 sounds like a good friend price.
On the off chance you're just giving up on shooting a 1911 because of unsatisfactory performance on your part..consider a coach, serious.

Thanks Unk. No probs shooting the gun. Just don't want to spend the $$ on ammo and I don't have the time/room to reload. I'm sticking to 22/38/357/9mm.
Regarding the 1911 platform I'm not crazy about the external safety and the low mag capacity as well as the high ammo cost. The ammo cost is probably the least of the issues actually. It's a nice gun, it's just not my cup of tea I guess.

You don't like the capcity or ammo price, but you shoot .38 and .357? Both are more expensive than .45 and I have to assume you are shooting them in revolvers, which have less capacity. :dunno:

I never understood the capacity issue.
As stated the ammo cost is probably the least of the issues. I mostly shoot 9mm as I am the most accurate with my G19 than any of my other guns.
Don't get me wrong, I don't "hate" the 1911, I just find myself going to the Glock or a revolver for most of my range trips.
Back on topic, what do you think of the price?

Exactly.
But my purpose for this thread is not to discuss the virtues,or lack thereof, of the 1911.
It is to determine if my idea of what the gun is worth is on the money or not.
I think that $500.00 is a good price on a stainless Mil-Spec.

Thanks for the pricing confirmation. I have a friend interested so he has first shot, so to speak. Also, since he lives in IL we don't have to through an FFL. I've already got a down payment so he is committed but I want to let him shoot it and will let him back out if he's not happy.

That seems like a reasonable "for a friend" price. "99% condition?" Well, I suppose that's something. However, the lower-end 1911s like that can vary quite a bit in the little touches. Some folks care a lot about the "N" versus "NM" serial number prefix, for example. If someone offered be one for $500, but the slide overhung the frame noticeably and the extractor was clocking, I'd back away. If it's running right and doesn't have any of those little annoyances, the price seems fair to me.
