View Full Version : 800x under 175 tc lee ?
Mine cast at 182. But anyways. I have some loaded with 10.5gr of 800 x for hunting that really swing a steel plate. They have a pretty nice flat nose. Anyways. To my question.
Anyone work up 800x under 180 gr lead? I am going to load up some to 11 gr and see how they do. At 10.5 there is no smiles. Or other signs of danger. They are super accurate. Just thinking I could get close to another 100 fps by going to 11 gr. Sound about right?
Being he meplat is slightly smaller speed counts.

If you don't have a chronograph you are working blindly! Seeing that you are above the book load specs your on your own!

I have one. Just no time to pull it out and test. Yes I am above book a little. But compared to a xtp in 180 max book is 10.1. I am working with q shorter bullet giving a lil more case room. I have loaded and shot the xtp to 10.8. So I don't think 11gr with the shorter boolet is dangerous. Well at least no more than I have been doing.
I loaded 50 of them. Will shoot a few tomorrow when I go up.north for the weekend.
Just figured someone would have tried to max out this bullet with 800 x at some point.

also, lead bullets (as a generalized rule) develop less pressure that jacketed designs.
11 gr shot great. No signs of pressure at all. I would work higher but no.need. group tight. 2 in free hand at 30 yards.
In the tree now just waiting for a bear to come in to shoot.
