We just put a contract on a house out in the country. It sits on approximately 11 acres and 10 of it is heavily wooded. I walked the property this week and found this about 150-200 yards from the house out in the woods. It's about half way back on the property. You can't see the house from here nor can you see the tree stand from the house. It sits on the edge of a nice creek that cuts through the center of the property.

Looks like the previous owner had a plush deer stand. While I love shooting and have been doing so all my life I have never hunted anything larger than coyotes. Maybe that will change.

Very cool, I love hunting deer and most of the time don't really care if I shoot one or not.

That looks awesome!

Did you crawl up in it? Does it feel/look structurally sound, or is it rotted out at all?

It's quite solid. The house is a foreclosure and less than 10 years old. The deer condo is built very well and has a loft for sleeping, wrap around porch, glass windows that open and close and a door.

Or maybe it was a tree house for the kids. . .

You need some chairs for the outside, and a massive cooler for all of the beer on the inside. Then you will be set

I'd build a guest treehouse/deer stand like that. Looks awesome.

frank_drebin

I bet it was built as a tree house and not a deer blind.

it's obviously a deer stand. There is a clear line of sight up and down the creek bed. The tin portion is all camo and the spent slug casings that abound in, on and around the stand speak volumes. It's nowhere near the house and there are a few empty beer cans and styrofoam coffee cups in the enclosed portion. Finally, there are 3 empty spray cans of some deer scent in the enclosed portion.

The land backs up to 1000+ acres of forest with 10 acres on either side.

means tree house, not deer blind.

If you have to sit outside on the wrap around porch to make a shot on the deer, then it is NOT a deer blind!

If you can not easily scope down all possible shooting lanes from one position, it is not intended for hunting.

Could it be used as a tree stand - YES! But from the pics I see, it was not built with hunting in mind. Chances are that if you ask anyone that lives near there, they will tell you that the previous owners had kids about the age to enjoy one heck of a tree house.

Doesn't have to meet your strict requirements to be a deer stand :)

Some people like to sit out on a porch to hunt deer. Helps them get closer to nature.

With millions of hunters and the American spirit, there are lots of different takes on what to build for hunting purposes.

Hard to know if it was converted, multi-purpose, or originally intended for hunting.

I think that the color of the house says to me its a kids tree house, but judging by the picture with a little work there is at least one very nice lane, add a little softer color to the house and a satelite TV connection and you have one of the greatest tree stands EVAH!!

I can see it now Tree Stands of the Rich and Shameless!!

Obviously it works well as a deer stand, although it probably had a dual use role(.308 and 12 ga reference).

I will point out though that if you have a contract out on this house, it is not "your" yard, at least not yet!:tongueout:

i bet it was designed as both a tree house and a deer stand. i bet it was built for the kids but come deer season they got told to keep their asses away from the backside of the property, or got shipped off to the grandparents for a couple of weeks while dad used it to hunt from.

No offense, but it doesn't sound like you know anything about hunting :)

The deer are going to hear him go out there. They will smell him. They will hear his rocking chair. And they will also see him moving.

He doesn't know when a deer will come by. He has to stay alert keeping his eyes peering through the woods for the slightest motion. If an opportunity does present itself, he'll have to get into shooting position quickly, with no noise, and not being seen.

To make a shot he will have had to practise a lot and know distances, and keep it all under control at that moment. The far away deer oblivious to him will soon be threading between trees and out of view. The closer deer will hear him creaking forward in his chair ready to bound away at the next mistake.

Crap that wasn't even a buck anyway. Now he's got to try and relax and wait more. His feet are getting cold and the North wind is picking up.

Pretty much what ithaca_deerslayer said.

To me it isnt a sport though. I kill deer for their meat. Do you think you should make it sporting to get your steak and cheese burger?

A tree house like that would be much more comfortable than a deer stand.

It is a lottery system for the doe permits. Most years you don't get one, some years you do. Also varies by region, some management regions will say flat out no doe permits being given this year.

I'm gonna take the screen outta my kitchen window and place a set of earplugs on the window sill.

I plan on taking a deer (buck or doe, don't really care) right outta that window with my 7mm Mag.

Is it "hunting"? Hell, I dunno, nor do I care. I just know that'll be one less deer to rape my garden. I also know that it'll taste just as good whether shot out of my window or a deer stand. :whistling:
