Hello Florida!! That's right I did it still in process of moving, this week was getting kids in private schools, tomorrow housing, and after that office space.
We did it, I can't post ALOT because real busy that's why I have been off for a while... I've had it, we walked away from ALOT of money, professional and social status in our community, to give our sons a fresh start away from cesspool, of liberals, a culture of entitlement, public employees and their unions. The only thing I miss is my family and it has only been a week. Area of Florida is Tampa Bay area. We are here, boys started school and Sunday school already, getting a rental home for a while, then office space, Here's to new beginnings, and wanting something better for our children!!

Congratulations and don't ever look back. I love all sorts of things about California - I can't even imagine raising kids out there.
Doing the right thing by your kids is something all sorts of people talk about but very few take action to accomplish.
Enjoy a grouper sandwich for me sometime soon!

I made the move to Florida from California 10 years ago. The gun laws are better here but there are a lot of North easterners trying to mess things up also.
Plus I never really got used to the bugs, the oppressive heat, jungles instead of forests and its flat as a piece of paper here. Not a hill to be found in the whole state.
Oh, cant forget the inbred whack jobs that infest the place. Give it time and you see what I mean.

Good bye. What city did you live in?
California could be such a cool state , if everyone there died .
Do you happy-dance yourself into coma on the days like when four Oakland cops got killed?
Best of luck to you. I hope the new phase of your life plays out well for you and yours.
Hahahahahaha, I let the wife pick between here Texas or Colorado, she picked here.

When you look at the economy, housing prices and gun laws, should be a no brainer.
Plus if you live inland, no hurricanes. In Florida...ummm
Best wishes and good luck to you and your family in your new, free home, amigo.
Only downside, you could have been a Texan. :cowboy:

florida is great except for insurance. don't have a heart attack when you switch. Auto will be probably 50-100% higher than in cali and home will be even worse. Be careful it is a no fault state and there are tons of illegals from 90 miles south that love to stop short so they can collect the 10k in personal injury that is required by the state.

When I moved from Kalifornia to Nevada in early 2010, I stopped at the border; lit a match; and tossed it over my shoulder. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, the state didn't burn down and fall in the ocean. However, my bridge was burnt.
If I never step foot in Kalifornia again, it will be one day too soon.

Should have chose tx.
I visited California once. It has such potential. Beaches, hunting, mountains. Sad that it is completely ruined economically and ran by idiots.
Congratulations. When you get down to the sponge docks at Tarpon Springs, stop in at Hellas Restaurant and have a Greek salad for me. :milestone:

I lived in the Tampa/St Pete area for about 1 1/2 year and bugs and the heat was the only thing I hated. I remember the first thing I did New Years day was I stepped on a roach barefoot when taking the trash out to the garage. I'm from PA so bugs disappear between October and March. In Florida bugs never take a holiday.
Also the lack of any hills or mountains is odd, and will be noticeable especially for Califorina folks. One thing you will miss if you were from Southern CA, is never seeing snow. You can't drive 2 or 3 hours to the mountains to go skiing then drive back to the coast and +80 degree weather like you do in CA. If you want to see snow or go skiing in FL, you going to need to travel far.
Its weird, around the holidays in FL, I kind of missed the snow. However now that I moved back to PA, in the winter I kick myself for moving back up north.

Best of luck to you. I've lived in both places and there are a lot of differences between the two, but one thing you'll notice is how some 90 year old floridian will pull out in front of a line of traffic and then creep along at about 9 miles an hour.
But I hope you learned Spanish while you were in kalifornia. Depending upon where you are in floriduh, you might need it. (I also lived in the Tampa/St Pete area)

Good luck to you in your move and new business. :) Hope things go great for you & your family.
I'd planned to move from CA upon retirement, but having a grandchild here put the brakes on that idea, at least temporarily (to help provide childcare), and then an unexpected health issue occurred and slowed things down for me for a year. Now, we're going to move into a great house in the Coastal mountains here in CA, and then maybe look to buying a small place in WA (to be able to be close to the next grandchild as often as possible).
Guess we'll be going back and forth a bit. ;)
Depending how things go, and the future cost of healthcare comparing CA (Kaiser) and WA, we may become residents of WA and keep a vacation home in CA ... or vice versa. Personal income taxes, property taxes and other things will have to be taken into consideration, as well, of course.

There certain things in life that are priceless. I felt that the community we were living in school, church, and profession. Were not conducive to how we wanted to raise our sons. A 7 year old and 3 year old, i need to make sure they grow into proper men. California's culture didn't it for us, friends and family, love them, and will miss them, but we gotta do what we gotta do.
I am walking away from a successful business and career, but I can get another job or another business, my sons mean too much.
Just looking at car tags alone I am shaking my head. It really takes one to step outside to see how bad it is.

That is weak that people say that. I am in So Cal, I understand it sucks being here sometimes. My wife and I are lucky to have good careers and loving families out here. So for now we are going to "do our time" and save our money. I for one wish you well and I hope it works out for the better, you have two little guys that are counting on it. Good luck, do well.

Congratulations. I left eight years afo and never looked back. We visit once a year (obligatory fishing trip/ visit families & friends trip) and generally by the third day, I am so.absolutely.done,and want to go HOME.
Many of our friends and family in Cali treat our moving as an extended vacation and ask, "So, when ya coming home?". Then they get bent out of shape when I reply, "NEVAAAHHHH!!!"
My home is Idaho. Yeah, I'm good.

The boys are situated and loving school, making friends.
The wife and I are still adjusting, I have leased a small office Suite in North Tampa (so I been told) finding a rental home proved to be more daunting than I had hoped. For starters area we needed (close to work and kids school) were literally nothing available all homes we found by the time we called were already leased, and I am talking we would call the day they were listed.
So we came up on one by accident in an area we did not want. (Nice home, nice people, nice area, just farther North than we wanted) But we figure its temporary maybe in a year or two we get a place. Home in California is being sold and in escrow.
Miss my family, and friends, but hands down the move was worth it. We see a change in the kids already.
I am glad we did this, just need to work my butt off to get this Insurance Agency going. Wish me luck folks.
