View Full Version : Recoil spring trouble
I recently changed from the 147 gr to the 124 gr FMJ bullet for my G34. I am having trouble with the gun not coming to slide lock when the mag is empty. I tried my other G34 and the results were the same. I am shooting 4.1 G of TG under a 124 Gr precision Delta FMJ at 1.150 OAL.
Question... Am i under powered with the load or do i need a lighter recoil spring? If a new spring is in order, do you have a suggestion as to which poundage i should change to . I currently have the stock / factory one installed.
you can try a.couple of things. either add .1 more powder, shorten OAL to 1.14, ot change your Rsa. Most people run a 14 lb Wolff, or a 13lb ISMI.

The main issue here is balancing power and recoil spring so the gun runs well (subjective) and reliably (objective). What kind of power are you making with the TG, and how consistent is your ammo?
My opinion is that the OE spring is way too much for a match pistol. I use the Wolff #14 on a Wolff rod, and my ammo is ~130-132PF.
Set your OAL on the basis of function, not power. I load all my 9mm to 1.125x0.375.
Of course there are reasons other than low power that the slide might not lock back.
13 pound ISMI...possibly with a coil or two cut off if you are running all the way down to 125 power factor.
I just ordered a 13# spring from Lone Wolf. I should have it in a couple days . Ill report back and let you know what happens.
