View Full Version : 10mm suppressor load?
I've got a LW 5.2" threaded barrel for my g20sf. I've been kicking around the idea of picking up a suppressor for it. The next step would be for me to work up a good load to optimize performance of the can. I'm thinking a 200gr bullet around 1050fps (sub sonic). I've got a lot of 200 BT HC on hand or would a 200gr nosler or xtp be better. I'm thinking purely in a defensive situation. I've got some A#9 and Longshot on hand , but I think the Longshot is out because it seems to have a lot more bark in my hot loads than A#9. Maybe somebody could recommend a better powder. Any comments would be nice.
If you go heavier on the bullet it may help. I videoed 230s over Longshot in the dark, and there was very little flash, and that was at 1130 through the same barrel. I bet you could get down to 1000 ish and get muzzle pressure down pretty low, and Ls doesn't make a lot of gas anyway, at least w/ the heavy bullets in a comp it doesn't appear to.
Thanks for the input. I'm Planning on either the 200gr nosler, xtp or BT Hc. Really it comes down to if the hollow points will expand reliably at 1050fps and if they do, will they work as good as a HC with a wide meplet.
Sounds like fun project. It is on my "some day" list too.
200 gr XTPs certainly expand at 1050 fps. Having noodled through this in the past, the first powder I would try is Accurate no. 7. That velocity is certainly within its performance abilities, and it has virtually no muzzle flash. No. 9 would be fine too. It is a relatively low flash powder.
I guess it just comes down to xtp or nosler.
