Just had to show off my latest project. My RRA has served me well for several years but it was time to spice it up a bit so I jumped on the FDE bandwagon. I wanted something more durable than spray paint so I chose Cerakote. My gunsmith skills are limited so I also decided on having it applied professionally.
I contacted Joe Larson at LTM Refinishing (also known as Larson Tactical). First of all there is alot of negative internet chatter regarding LTM. A few years ago LTM had a bad year due to personal family crisis's and as a result alot of work was neglected.
I am happy to say first hand that this is no longer the case with LTM in 2012. I spoke to Joe several times before sending my gun. Joe is very personable and has an extensive knowledge of metal coating. He was able to educate me on many aspects of Cerakote. He was very open about the bad press from the past and assured me that those days were over. In a little over a week I received the rifle back and couldn't have been more pleased.

The finish is the thermal version of Cerakote as Joe recommended. The parts are nicely finished and are a perfect match for the Magpul FDE. I had expected a satin finish based on photos of other Cerakote, but was pleasantly surprised that the finish was nice and flat. Despite the flatness, there is a slight slickness to the finish which gives Cerakote a natural lubricity.

I'm pretty pleased with the end results.
