My wife is slowly getting into shooting. I don't own a .22 handgun so I've been borrowing and/or going with others that do. She is not really comfortable with anything more than a 22 or 25. Her favorite gun she has shot so far was a Beretta .25 Bobcat. It was very small & light and fit her hands the best. She didn't like a Ruger Single Six or Single 10. They were heavy (to her) and she didn't like having to pull back the hammer. She hates the long trigger pull of a DA revolver. Any recommendations for a 22 handgun that is small and light? She liked the Ruger SR22 at the store. Any others we should try to find and see how they fit her hand?

I bought a Walther P22 for my wife a couple of years ago and she really likes it. It has three sizes of grip backstraps so you can configure the grip for three different sizes.

I also have a Ruger SR22 and she likes it too. It has two grip sleeves for a larger or smaller size.

My experiance has been that both operate just fine, though the Ruger was specifically designed to operate with a wider variety of .22 Long Rifle ammo. Even so, my Walther has not given us any problems.

If she likes the Bobcat, get her one in .22

Also, S&W makes the 613 (or is it 637?) and .22lr snubbie.

For larger guns, the ruger mark II is good.

My wife loves the S&W M41.

That was my initial thought also...

The Walther TPH is a little gem of a pistol, but they can be hard to find, pricey, and -- from experiences that others have voiced -- finding a reliable one might be problematic (I guess I got lucky).

My wife saw the new Browning 1911 .22 in the lgs and loved the feel of it in her hand. She is petite and has small hands but the small Browning fit her hand perfectly.
They are a little expensive, but if it can make your wife happy and keep her shooting with you, it would be worth it.

The Beretta 21A is "Best in Class" among the small .22 pistols:

A bit larger, but also a very good choice is the Bersa (or Firestorm) .22

I can tell you that if she doesn't like long DA trigger pulls you can skip a Taurus 94 revolver.

I vote the Ruger SR22 pistol, I felt it was a better, updated Walther P22...

^I am really not trying to start a flame war with that, it was just my experience!
The SR22 I rented was filthy and still functioned fine, my friends P22 that I use needs to be squeaky clean, and still will jam occasionally.

+1 for the Bobcat .22. Mine has been 100% and is accurate enough for 50 yard gongs. Very nice little gun!

I'm thinking either the Bersa or the Ruger SR22 so she'll have a better chance of hitting something. If she decides to get her permit I might get her a Beretta later. If she totally gets out of shooting and hates it all, I'd rather have the Bersa or Ruger than the Beretta anyway.

you could ask her to handle each at a dealer........

Let her decide?
