View Full Version : Why no compact .45 ACP?

Glock makes the G21 (full-sized .45 ACP), the G30 (subcompact .45 ACP), and G36 (subcompact slim .45 ACP).

Why no compact? I was thinking that something the size of the G19 in .45ACP would be nice.

The G36 IS the size of a G19. Even uses the same holsters.

The G30 is the same size as the G19 - but a tad bit fatter. If you don't mind going GAP, the G38 is the same size at the G19.

Have you compared the size of a G19 and the G30?

No, I haven't compared the G30 - I'l have to take a look. I like .45 ACP (cheaper than .45 GAP, at least last time I looked) and the G19 is about the right size for a carry.

The G30 is a compact, regardless of what Glock calls it.

Its too big to be considered a subcompact, in my opinion.

The G30 is certainly bigger than the G26. The G30 to me seems closer in size to the G19 than to the G26.

Agreed. That's because it is.

Why no G34 length G21?

Why no G34 length G21?

I'm not sure there's much of a demand for it. :dunno:

first off why not single stack 9mm ? khar pm9 size ! i owned a g36 and i just dono why they couldent make the frame as wide as a g19 a tad bit longer to fit more rounds. the 36 is thinner than any glock . for no reason , so thin its awkward to hold i always had to but a grip on it to make it fatter . and the g30 is too fat . now i carry a hk45c .

The 30 is the perfect size IMO, yeah one like the 26/27 would be nice but just dont think they would be able to fit many rounds in it LOL....

I agree. Nearly identical in size to the 19, if it is a .45 kind of day, that's what I carry.

Nobody but Glock knows what they were thinking when they called the G30 a "subcompact" instead of a compact, or why they went right to calling the next .45 under the G21 (in size) a "subcompact".

Best guess (for me) is that they thought the label "subcompact" would sell guns, regardless of what potential customers might think when looking at it compared to other guns in a display case, or even their existing compacts (G19/23).

Compare the length of slide & barrel of the G30 & G36. (To be fair, the G36 actually has a barely longer distance between the sights.)

Glock got themselves sort of stuck when it came to having a "compact" .45 due to the way they'd already decided to market their G30/36 models.

Subcompact? The G30? Not so much.

Slim line? The G36? Okay, compared to the G30.

Whatever you might want to call the Glock. 45's ... or whatever they want to call them ... they are what they are. ;)

They just have to work, and fill any particular customer's perceived needs.

I remember when Glock first released the Glock 29/30 series.
They were marketed as compacts.

When Glock released the Glock 36, they changed how they marketed the Glock 29/30.

The called the Glock 29/30, "subcompacts" and the Glock 36, slim framed "subcompact".

How about a 45ACP the size of the 45GAP G39? The grip would have to be a bit fatter/longer, but it might be a good Glock counter to the XDS - which I have fondled, and liked. But I would much rather have a Glock 45ACP of that size. Cheers.

I fought the odd caliber itch for years, but after buying a GAP, I am sold on the platform and the cartridge.

I carried a G 36 for 3 years. It all of a sudden crapped out on me. I fixed it and shot 500 test rounds, decided I did not like it anymore. Still have my 30SF and 21SF. Being an SF guy, I have a small, uh small hands well you know what I mean.

This may not help, but I had a G36, and really wanted something smaller to carry after going with a SA XD45c. I decided to check out the XDs and Kahr CW45. I already have a Kahr CW9, so I am comfortable with Kahrs. The CW45 is the same width as a G26/27. It has a full grip that you can actually put three fingers on. It also only cost me $369 plus tax. I also was able to use the M-Tac holster that I use for my G27/36/19.
The XDs is also very nice, but if you can find one, it will be around $600 or so.
My CW45, I just put 100 rds of WWB and not an issue with it. Next week, I'll put through another 100 rds of various ammo, and some JHP's. I am confident it should be good to go to carry.

I'd really love to see a Glock 9mm the size of my Kahr pm9, and a .45 the size of an XDs. The Glock trigger system would make my Kahr perfect. The XDs is pretty great as is, I just want it to be a Glock.
