Removing anti tag theft bolts?

Ok guys, I put some of those gunny head tag bolts on on eof my cars and I was wondering how to remove them to change the license plate? The bolts are the ones where it only has a half slot to work with. Thanks

There's a special tool for removing those. I don't know where to find that tool but I can't imagine it would be too difficult to find. My other thought is a pair of vise grips.

On one car I had them on I just pulled them out and pushed them back in with a different tag but on this one it is not doing that. The vice grips may be the way to go.

I have that set, there is nothing in it that will remove the half slot screws.

try a pair of vise grips, super glue or jb weld as somebody else suggested. If you have access to the nut side of the plate you should be able to loosen the nut without too much difficulty.

Buy the set anyway, it has come in handy a number of times. The last time was the connector cover for my pressure washer used the two prong screws. I wouldn't have been able to remove the cover without that set.

Oh and the lock on my kids cricket rifle used one of those torx with a dimple in the middle.

That is what I figured I would have to do. I think they should tell people to only use them on tags you won't have to replace. :upeyes:

May or may not have used a rare earth magnet attached to a standard screwdriver post to remove all the screws present in a certain dorm bathroom. I don't know if you have access to rare earth magnets, but they work like a charm.
