View Full Version : Before the debate started
Did any of you notice the long awkward silence after Lehrer gave the audience permission to cheer and introduced Obama? There wasn't a peep. The applause for Romney wasn't even close to being enthusiastic, but at least someone made some noise.

I thought he said there would be no "vocal" expressions of any kind.

I believe Lehrer allowed for a "one time only" round of applause during their entry. But the mixed signals he gave may have thrown off the audience.

He very clearly said he would allow applause while he introduced the candidates.

I guess the audience wasn't paying much attention to Lehrer...? :dunno:

I wasn't sure the way he worded it and not sure if the audience was confused or what. I did notice though how Obama strutted across the stage with a big smile on his face and all cocky. He didn't leave the stage the same way.
