I was on Amazon the other night buying some batteries and books. One of the books was a pretty common paperback my daughter was looking for. Used price was a couple of bucks but somone had listed a new copy for $1600+. I guess there really is one born every minute.

Not only is it a crazy expensive stipple job, but the trigger guard looks like it would snap in half if you squeeze too hard.

My only gripe with that stipple job is that it is only a partial.
He should have invested a little more time and stippled every square millimeter of plastic. Dust cover, inside the trigger guard, hell even the trigger itself. Now that would show some commitment.

bac1023
10-07-2012, 14:17
I just sent the seller this message...

I wouldn't pay the price of a new Glock for that.

Stippling plastic with a soldering iron does not add value to the gun. Hopefully, nobody is stupid enough to get ripped off like that. Wow.

I can't stand sellers trying to rip people off on Gunbroker.

I don't care for stippling (I know some do) and I certainly don't like cutting the trigger guard to paper thin dimensions.

When you look at the profile of a Glock frame, it appears to me that the trigger guard is an integral part of the reinforcement of the right angle formed by the rail portion and the butt portion of the gun.

To me that looks like a severe reduction in the frame strength while in search for a "special" look.

Not what I would buy.

Haha :wow:!! I'm amazed at the prices they want for those two terrible stippled Glocks by their multiple talented in house gunsmiths. I get why people do it, but to me it makes the gun look ugly as hell. Never been a fan stippling since I've only seen one good stipple job on a Glock.

First off no way I would pay that kinda scratch for either one or any Glock for that matter. Still if the guy can sell them for that price more power to him. Value is often a very subjective quality. Remember one man's junk is another's treasure.

So here's the response I got when I told the seller he ruined a good gun lol. I mentioned how I put a Barsto, Vanek trigger, Dawson magwell, and Dawson sights plus the price of the new 22 for $1100, and for a stipple job I'd still probably come in at half what he's asking for the G34 monstrosity... Ah, it's nice to see a craftsman with Old-World values who nutures that age-old "the customer is always right" attitude. And so well-spoken, too. I'll bet his mommy is REAL proud of him, too. But let's take it easy on 'im, OK? He's been in jail only once, so how bad could he really be? :dunno:

Honestly, he's priced himself out of range of those who would buy from him ("Uh, I'll give you this bag of crack and my best friend's stolen car for it.") and anyone with enough money to spend on a custom gun is going to go to a legitimate 'smith instead of dealing with that goof-off.

Brandon712
10-12-2012, 05:44
I agree. Learning to grip the pistol would save these people a lot of time and money on grip modifications.

It's personal preference. A persons grip has nothing to do with it, (unless of course you are holding it like a 1970's police officer from the movies). The HK USP Compact is "stippled" from the factory and it feels like it wont slip out of your hands if they get a little sweaty, its almost like fine grit sandpaper. I feel like I always have a solid grip on it.

The M&P is another story, those grips are buttery smooth and if your hands start sweating I don't feel like I have a real good grip on it.

The Gen 4 Glocks however are not bad because of the little "polymids" or whatever they are called that are now on the grip.

Its the same thing as the stock M4/ M16 family of rifles. The stock grips are awfully smooth whereas you replace it with say the Magpul MIAD which is stippled from the factory and you feel like you would never have your grip slip on it.

Fire_Medic
10-12-2012, 09:09
I agree. Learning to grip the pistol would save these people a lot of time and money on grip modifications.

How you grip the pistol has absolutely nothing to do with a modification that is "personal preference". My Gen 4 G19 is stippled, I have a stippled M&P 45 FS, and my mid size M&P 45 will get the same treatment at some point. These aren't 1911's where I can swap the grip panels at will for the desired texture depending on the environment the gun will be used in. These three pistols are the work horses of the ones I own, and they are not safe queens. When you're out in the heat for days at a time, and rolling around in the dirt it's nice to have a gun that's not sliding all over the place. You can grab the pistol with a death grip if you'd like, but if you're hands are all sweaty and dirty, all you're doing is tiring your arm muscles from gripping too tight, the gun will still slide around and you will have to re adjust your grip avery few rounds.
