Looking forward to getting off work and watching over a few beers. Before the new season starts thought i would get this out of theway.

1. Gun shops are everywhere in (Current setting of Episode) Why haven’t they gone to one yet?

2. They should be using suppressed weapons!

3. They should have picked up(weapon, food, gear) when they were at (location).

4. They need more zombie killing!

5. It's like a soap opera for men.

6. I don't watch it! But I still post about it!

7. This happend (Differntly/ better) in the comic.

8. Obvious prediction about what will happen next, followed by how "The show doesn't follow the comics exactly." and "Called it!"

I'm sure there are more, but since I got the big ones out of the way, can we just enjoy this season?

I thought about the gun shops, and I figured that by the time everything collapsed, all of them would have been cleaned out/looted.

Ditto on the suppressed weapons. First, it isn't that easy to do. Second, it is only practical for subsonic rounds. But It looks like they have them for season 3.

2. They are going to start to do so in Season 3 - more home made than anything else from what I understand. Before this, WHERE were they supposed to get the cans for these guns from, IF local gun shops had them (and then not that many in stock to begin with?) ? It's a TV show. :)

3. They did, they kept going to town in the beginning of Season 2, when they were all still looking for the little girl. When they fled at the end of that season, it was time to get the hell out of Dodge, no time to stop and raid the local Wally World one last time! :)

7. Yep, that's been well documented. :)

8. Yep.

PS - It's a TV show :) Of course a lot does not make sense, and of course it does not follow the source material - what DOES in TV or film? :)

But, fortunately, the install only took two hours, and only spent 10 minutes on the phone with DNW to cancel.

I just finished watching the Season 3 premier of The Walking Dead. I seems they accelerated the timeline since the final episode of season 2.

I was glad to see they finally made their way to the prison. It will not take them long to find the Governor, and then things will really get interesting. When they entered the prison, I remember thinking, “Oh S*** !” when the zombie prison guards came around the corner wearing body armor. The only good news was that their mouths were covered, so there was little threat of becoming Zombie Chow.

Another interesting aspect of the zombie guards is the training it provided. Can’t get to the head by bashing it, find something that reaches into the soft tissue of the neck and into the brain.

What did you guys think of Rick hacking off Hershal’s leg?

I was wondering the same thing-then I noticed the back packs on the chained zombies. It does sort of make sense, you don't have to feed or otherwise fuel them, the arms have been removed so they cannot grab you-loading and unloading though requires you to pay attention to what you are doing.

Think about it- theres no scent cover advantage to that. If there was zombies would get mixed up all the time when attacking people. Two extra random zombies standing by you arent going to throw the other zombies off.

In the comic book, they were her boyfriend and his best friend.

She uses them as pack mules and for camo. They only work on a limited basis as camo, though.

Spoiler from comic <highlight to read>:
It's mostly to help mask her scent and walk about them mostly without issue. But one of them was her boyfriend and the other was the boyfriends friend if I recall.

In the comics at least, you also find out she kept them for companionship. She would talk to them to help keep herself from feeling alone. Keeps her semi-sane. She would continue acting like she is talking to the boyfriend (I think) even after she dispatched them to be allowed inside the prison.

I like that they've found some new weapons. Liked seeing the AR and AK. And the addition of home-made suppressors is cool.

Seems like with as much time as has passed, there should be more decomposition. Do the Z's ever rot all the way down? I guess if they did, no more show. Suppose I'll have to suspend that part of reality, but have writers explained that the corpses of the walkers have unusual longevity, either on the show or in the comics?

Haven't had time to go back and watch it again for the detail of this, but when they were looking over the map, were they talking about being blocked by clogged roads in the various directions they had tried, or impenetrable herds of walkers?

Overall, pretty interesting. They set up a lot of elements for the season, and unlike last season, I don't think they'll be able to let it drag out forever. Too much going on when dealing with other groups of survivors vs. random, wandering zombies.

It's silly to try to add logic to this other than that's how it was somewhat explained in the books. When she had them around her, the zombies mostly left her alone.

But perhaps a somewhat realistic reason is it is a case where you're fine until you give them reason to think you're actually food. In other words, the zombies you have tied to a chain don't think you're food, so I also don't think you're food.

Good episode, but still stupid people. I know, I know my way would make for a very boring show.

If you're smart enough to stab them through the fence, why don't you stab them all through the fence?

Go into a dark maze? Why don't you set up a choke point at the door, yell and let the zombies come to you?

While I don't think the leg chop would work and he'd probably bleed out anyways, it's worth a try since healthy people didn't last when bitten.

In the comics, it can work...however, the bigger problem is bleeding to death, going into shock, or the possibility of infection.

Realistically though, I would think the virus would move through the bloodstream too fast for it to work. But guess that's why this is fantasy.

Why not walk the whole party to the far end of the lot (so they won't have to carry Z bodies anywhere), let the Zs follow and press up against the fence, and tire-iron them one by one in a neat pile? Instead, they send Rick into the middle of the Zs and waste 100 rounds.

I know, I know, leave all semblance of possibility out of the show or it'll be stupid........

BUT!!!

1 - Where the heck do they find their ammo? Can't imagine any store that carried it would have any after the initial panic

2 - Why don't the zombies just drop due to 'lack of fuel'? We have to eat to power the muscles, brain, etc. Body would still need some source of fuel and I doubt that each a zombie has a constant supply of live animals.

3 - Why does it take a bite to become sick/zombie? I'm sure that after all those killings, that someone has had blood splatter to the eyes, in mouth, on an open cut, etc.

4 -Seems like a whole lotta zombies can walk and reach for live specimens. Most don't seem to be gutted, bitten, etc. Yet each time you see a depiction of a zombie catching a human, its complete feast time by the zombies. How did all those zombies come to be??

5 - Seems like some zombies know how to think better than others trying door knobs, realizing that there may be a human behind a mobile home bathroom door, etc. Were those folks brilliant before the illness :-) Others can't slide a gate.

6 - Police guards with riot gear...... Um......... how did they succumb? Fingers bit off? I've seen riot police at a prison (other story altogether) and every bit of the upper body was very well protected.

Post some of your 'absurdities' that nonetheless still allow the show to be entertaining.

Since only head shots matter, why not use .22 pistols? Ammo is easy to carry, guns are easy to shoot quickly and accurately, very little recoil, etc.

Shotguns are low capacity, loud, and ammo is extremely bulky).

The crossbow thing is getting old. It's bulky, not vert accurate, slow to reload, and you're limited to the number of bolts you have.

A bite or scratch will turn you into a zombie, yet they wear tank tops and cut off sleaves instead of leather or other clothing. Not to mention all the gore they get splattered with from slicing and chopping. At least wear long sleeves!

Rick uses a gooey zombie juice infected ax to cut off Herschel's leg, won't that infect him?

Lori is going to face a similar situation with the baby, Herschel was a foreshadow. Lori will get bit or die somehow. They'll have to kill her to save the baby. Lori already had that talk with her kid about not hesitating to put them down if need be. The big moment of suspense will be waiting to see if the baby is a human or zombie. I think it will be human, and Rick will give it to the asian kid's girlfriend to care for it.

Did no one watch the previous seasons? EVERYONE is already infected with the Z virus, it just can't take over until you die. Bites cause enough damage/infection to overwhelm the body and cause death. Now there are plenty of good points being made about tactics and oversights, but that particular question has been explained already within the show. As for the guards in riot gear, I know from personal experience that even completely geared up you can still suffer blunt force trauma..perhaps they were overwhelmed and beaten to death or suffered respiratory failure from overexposure to CS gas? :dunno:

A lot to be said for them, especially at close range. Less noise, too.

Ya. Not the best, if you can choose.

The gore getting into an open wound is a good question, but they need protection from scratches. They should have at least cloth long sleeves with neck coverage!

And how about leather gloves?

The bite kills him and turns him into a zombie. The severed leg was an attempt to prevent that.

If you consider that they already have the virus in their blood, then the effect of the bite must be something other than just getting the virus into their blood, so it kind of makes sense.

i hope we get a flashback or something that explains how the group wound up with silencers made from old maglites and what looks like a sawed off aluminum bat.

between the silencers, the new found accuracy, the giant carbiner/chain contraption and a few other little things it seems like they've picked up a whole slew of new tricks and tactics since we last saw them. i'm wondering if they crossed paths with other survivors and got some training or if the producers just got tired of their characters being so bloody hopeless.

Cross posted from another TWD thread:

They need to make spears. Not hard to make, give you a bit of stand off, would be perfect for the fence poking, hell of a lot better than a fireplace poker. Make some bows. Again not hard to do, can make as much ammo as you can carry. Make some basic armor, leather or thin sheet metal. Also not hard to do, all you have to protect against is bites, not bullets, so you can maintain light weight and not compromise speed and agility. Look for more efficient vehicles, that old Suburban is a horrible choice when you have to scavenge for gas, and there's obviously cars sitting around everywhere. Find a small trailer, mount a generator on it, and get CBs, they're all over the damn place. Get a larger trailer, find a greenhouse, and get a mobile garden going. Get a welder to go with the generator, the ability to make stuff out of metal is never a bad thing, would help with weapons and armor. Grab any ATVs/dirt bikes you run across, use for recon.

The list goes on, but you should be able to find all that stuff in a week in just about any rural area. I'd shoot Rick in the nuts if I was in that group, all they have to show for 5-6 months of wandering around is a couple new guns and household implements and some goofy chain attached to to flimsy carabiners thing.

I would guess that Lori's dead body was recovered and buried after Carl capped her. BTW, in the comic, Lori survives child birth and then gets bitten/killed while trying to escape when the prison gets over run. The phone thing is from the comic. Rick goes a little nuts for awhile.

Bet the phone call was real, got to introduce new bad guys, maybe the governor is trying to call out and find potential information sources.

Hamilton Burger
11-12-2012, 08:55
Yes, the "Trail of Tears Poppy" or whatever it was on Carol's grave.

The graves and markers might've been placed in anticipation of recovering the bodies, and to give closure to the survivors.

If Lori was devoured, the bones may have simply been carried off while they still had some meat on them. The zomb Rick knifed appeared to be quite gorged on something; it had a nice little potbelly thing goin' on.

In the preview, it looks like Daryl spots or recovers Carol's knife. Is it a clue that she lives? Rick telling the phone "We're dying here" I don't think speaks to Lori.

People need to remember that they said two character were gonna die this episode (not three and not one). We saw T-dog go down. We didn't see Carol or Lori die (for sure). My prediction is that we will see Lori as a half eaten zombie at some point and Carol will be found alive.

My only gripe is that they didn't address who/what was in the graves. It seems obvious they buried something. They must have at least thought they found the bodies, but it wasn't addressed or even mentioned how that happened.

The actress that portrays Lori has supposedly had her wrap party and is already working on new projects. The co-executive producer said that the pot bellied zombie had drug her body around the corner and devoured her, hence the hair in his mouth and hands.

Lori is gone.

Will have re watch that part.....didn't see the hair.

I thought Rick was gonna dig Lori out of the z's gut.

i don't know what exactly but there is something profoundly wrong and broken with the governor's mind. first there was the fish tanks full of heads, then the ambush on the national guard guys, then the weird little eye twitch thing when merle sort of stood his ground, and now the little zombie girl and the notebook that looks like something out of a serial killer movie. seriously, that dude is ****ed up like an inflatable dartboard.

I like the governor. Sure, hes a little nutty. Got heads in jars. A little girl, who I would presume was his daughter, all faux-human like. A notepbook with a bazillion checks next to Penny (I have no idea what this means, can anyone fill me in?)...but he doesn't seem overtly bad.

He killed some 'military'. Guess what, they weren't military, there is no more military. And their supplies helped his city a lot. He seems to really care, first and foremost, about keeping his city safe. When crazy sword woman wanted to bail, he let her and was going to let blondie bail also, so he isn't keeping people against their will either.

Experimenting on the zombies like the doc is obviously doing is probably the smartest thing that can be done at this point.

I really don't see him as a bad guy yet.

Oh yeah the Gov is Evil because of this but if it was ohh say Will Smith then it would be A-OTAY! (for those slow on the uptake I agreeing with John)

I don't think there is very much black and white in this show. Outside of the gang that attacked them in the bar we haven't seen any loot and rape bands. I too am looking forward to what happens. Since Rick is just as controlling as the Gov and about as crazy right now.

Or they could've taken over and tried to institute some form of Martial law. They represented a large cache of supplies with a huge risk attached. By neutralizing them, the governor neutralized the risk.

Haven't you learned yet by the concurrent drama with Rick's group? DON'T TAKE CHANCES.

That is the thing. You really don't know what is in the head of anyone else outside your group.

As for Rick taking vengeance out on the zombies. Just stand back and let him go. They need to clean that place out anyway.

Really, section by section. That place needs to be dezombied. No way would I want them inside at all.

I like the zombie trap. Great idea. Think grand canyon.lol Hang something that looks human over the edge and the zombies just fall as they try to get it. Just make something that creates noise and your set.

Someone will stop that fight. My guess is Andrea will save Michonne. The preview showed her jumping the fence and then it showed Michonne retreating on the ground.

Merle won't be killed, though.

I think they set this scene up by making Merle out to be some true badass in the gladiator scene. IIRC, the clip also shows Merle blocking a sword strike, which IMO, makes Michonne look weak.

Merle will survive. The fight will get stopped somehow. I think Merle and Daryl have a story-arc to complete.

My guess is that Merle links up with Daryl somehow and Daryl has to make the classic "My brother or my friends" decision. It could make for a great piece of plot-line. Merle is a tough, ruthless SOB, but he does care about his brother, and Daryl has truly changed, but still feels bound to Merle as family.

Let the dramatic conflict begin!

Yeah but there's no way he could've controlled them the way he does everybody else. They were a threat to his control so that made the supplies worth more than they were. As said above he's way worse in the books, they don't do that stuff on tv much.

I'm sorry, but one z cannot eat an entire human (Lori) and a head/skull.
There wasn't enough time for others to feast. And if they did, Rick would have had to kill them too.

I know Lori wasn't huge, but she was like 115 lbs or so.

She's either alive or we'll see her later in Z form. Z's don't drag their meals off like the blood trail leading to the Z. They just eat them where they drop.

Also, when they do the Talking Dead, they always have the killed off characters.....L wasn't on there.

Lori will be back.

SPOILERS BELOW

basically the whole episode of "hounded "

Rick talks to the phone to the woman who tells him that she is on a safe place away from the zombies. He asks her where exactly she is but she doesn't tell him and ends the conversation. Later, a man rings and Rick tells him that he is with a group and that he has a son and a new-born, and also that his wife died. The man asks him how did she die but Rick doesn't want to answer

Meanwhile in Woodbury, the Governor grows closer to Andrea and they eventually end up having sex. A group lead by Merle is sent to find and kill Michonne in the forest. The group finds a cryptogram of zombie parts made by Michonne and warning them to stay away but they continue searching for her. They fight and she manages to kill two of them. Zombies attack her and the others

Merle, after killing Phil who was one of the group, reaches a town where he meets Glenn and Maggie. He takes her hostage and orders Glenn to drive to Woodbury while Michonne is watching from near. She reaches the prison and is met by Rick who had just gone outside in the yard after having hallucinations of Lori talking to him on the phone.

Michonne is pretty much everyone's favorite character in the comic, and I think she is portrayed very well in the TV series. She definitely has skills and so far they've managed to capture her most defining comic book trait in the TV series - her ability to turn off her emotions like a lightbulb when the situation demands it. She can go from caring, loyal person who would do anything for a friend to shark-like death machine in a fraction of a second!

She's a true bad-ass.

Semi-spoiler: Not sure if they will stick with her same background story in the TV series, but in the comic she was an Ivy League educated attorney who picked up her sword skills in college as a champion fencer.

The striking thing about it for me was the fact that he didn't look zombified. Even Shane looked dead when he came back as a walker just minutes after dying. The same can be said for the severed walker torso of the soldier in the chopper.

Did the pilot actually turn when he died? They had the pilot on a gurney. The likely killed him and quickly put his head in a jar with whatever liquid that is. That may be why his head looks a bit more 'normal', but I'm sure his head still turned.

Right. But their supplies were still a nice addition to the town's security and infrastructure. They WERE a potental threat. I might have done the same thing in his shoes (well, more likely I simply never would've gone and met them, but that then opens up the question of 'what if they find our town?) - no way I'm letting a whole gaggle of grunts into my peaceful town so they can turn it into some post-apocalyptic forward ops post.
