Just bought some ammo & going to get some stripper clips. Got a question. I've seen a few videos on YouTube and I haven't seen a good explanation of how to properly use the tabs.

I know the tabs come bent up against the ammo with loaded stripper clips, but do you leave them bent up when loading or do you bend the bottom tab down before pushing into mag?

Depends on the individual stripper. Some tabs will give when just pressing down on the ammo, and some will have to be bent back by hand first. Be aware that repeated bending of the tabs will cause them to break pretty easily.

with the xm193 i have bought on stripper clips, i have never needed to bend the tab down. the force of pressing down on the mag gets it done.

Sick on magazine push down with thumb on BACK part of casing. The tab will bend out of the way. Unless they aren't USGI stripper clips. Careful if you push down too far to the rear of the case you can cut your thumb on clip.

I always straighten 1 tab with my thumb nail.
Not sure what your intention is but in the long run, it would be easier to buy a Lula loader and load your mags directly. Buying ammo already on clips is one thing, but buying the clips and filling them yourself is an extra motion and wasted time, IMO. Just food for thought.

Is that the voice of experience?
I can relate to that.:embarassed:

You don't have to load the Lula one at a time? I guess I'm confused on how it works, but I'm inexperienced in the AR format.

I think this falls into the category of over thinking it.

This is the one I use.

Yeah, you load 1 round at a time but once you get a rhythm it goes pretty fast. There are numerous types of AR speed loaders out there if you look. Again, just food for thought

This is another one that is popular. I can’t comment because I haven’t used it.
Also, not recommending you buy here, this was just a convenient link.

I love the striplula. You dont have to bend the lip back it'll do it on pressure alone. It also doesn't bend it as far so there's less metal fatigue. Here in NJ we can't have loaded mags when going to the range, the striplula and some clips make it relatively simple.
