I also need some suggestions and/or reviews of units you've tried and loved, and/or hated, and why. Top and front loaders are being considered.

Thank you!

There is only one option. Whirlpool Duets. I'm on my second set. Really never had a problem with them. We moved and I didn't want to move the heavy things.

Also do a search on here as this topic comes up about once a month or so.

My washer is older than I am so I have no idea. If I was in the market for a new one It would have to be a front loader because they are fun to watch haha

Get a good brand name, but the most basic model.
A simple system is easy to work on as time passes, I think mine is 8 years old and a Whirlpool. I have rebuilt or replaced stuff on the dryer. The washer is still going strong.

I don't know how to run it but we bought a Samsung front loader last year and the wife loves it. It uses a lot less soap and after the mega rpm spin cycle much less energy to get the clothes dry.

This one would probably last for a while for home use...

I've had the front loader LGs for about 2 years now. No problems to report and I'm very happy thus far.

Whirlpool Duet set here. IIRC they are eight years old and have worked perfectly with significant use.

The only issue is I cracked the washer door handle trying to open the door when it was locked. I glued the crack together with contact cement thinking the repair would last a few weeks. That was four or five years ago now.
