Well since I asked about hair metal thought I'd ask about modern day rock bands. So who are some of your favorites??

I'm Gonna start with Tool and the Foo Fighters!

Social Distortion has been rocking since the 70s, I'm pretty sure.

I was thinking more along the lines of bands starting in the last five years or so. I don't think I could even name a rock band that new.:dunno:

Lots of older bands that are still active I like, but I think the newest band I like is Rise Against and they have to be almost 15 years old now.

Not sure if you'd call them Rock or not but I'll go with Drive By Truckers. I think maybe the best description would be Alternative Souther Rock.

There are none. Music has, once again, sunk to that low we saw in the mid-70's and the late 80's and is overdue to be refreshed. The boring, generically terrible bands named in this thread are enough evidence.

I'm more of a metal guy. So some little bands you have rarely heard of. Lamb of God, Kingdom of Sorrow, and for the symphonic metal head in all of us Within the Ruins. I even dig some classic rock like ZZ Top on occassion. But the land of bands like buck cherry is just pitiful.

Seeing as how opinionated you are about modern music, we have yet to hear any of what YOU consider "good" "non-mainstream" music that is not "boring." Don't see anyone trashing the music YOU consider acceptable. Keep your old crusty opinions to yourself if you don't have anything relevant or nice to say about things in the 20th century where we live now.....however old and decrepit you are yourself (or just plain LAME). Mid seventies had some great bands....like Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley (I guess not rock, but definitely music), plenty of good rockin stuff like Rush, Clapton, Jeff Beck, the list could be long.

Late eighties saw the emergence of new styles, including one of my favorite bands, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But also lots of good rap and rap offshoots (like the Beastie Boys). Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Krs One, and others were really innovating music and setting the foundations for the music of today.

Everybody likes something different, but there are good bands out there. Many operating at local or regional levels because most pop music these days sucks....

But this was just a couple months ago, check it out...skip around and watch a few songs. High energy, and they're having fun....RHCP - Bonnaroo 2012 FULL PROSHOT - YouTube
