If anything, the blue states would probably benefit from such a move. Since red states have more poor people, and since their state governments spend less money on the safety net, they receive a larger share of federal funds. Among states that voted Republican in the last three elections, all but one gets more money back from the federal government than it pays in taxes. For most Democratic states, itís the opposite. Looked at this way, the red states are the moochers and the blue states are the makers.

Following the logic of the left...

Blues states make much more so it's only "fair" they pay thier fair share. Besides.. they didn't build what they have they only got thier wealth by ripping off the red states... So really they probably owe the red states even more then they are paying.

Wow. I didn't know The New Republic was even still around. Amazing. A sorry anachronism still holding on. I wonder if The Daily Worker is still around, too.

THE QUINTESSENTIAL blue state is, of course, Massachusetts.

What state was Romney governor of? Oh yeah.

The New Republic is a perfect symbol (http://blogs.reuters.com/jackshafer/2012/03/09/chris-hughes-friends-the-new-republic/) of liberalism:

Hughes [the uber-rich fatcat greedy parasitic capitalist new owner of The New Republic] should be able to sustain the magazine’s annual losses — which Anne Peretz, the ex-wife of former owner Martin Peretz put at $3 million a year — for a couple of hundred years after his death.

Take my State and County as a microcosm of the U.S.

At one time my County had the highest rate of millionares, per capita, of the entire region of the Country. There was almost full employment and people moved here to find work.

The liberals took over in both the Federal and State level.

We now have the highest unemployment in the State.

Logging ans fishing were shut down by the envirowhackos.

We went from 9 gas stations on mainstreet in the nearby town to 4. 50% of businesses in the town have closed in the last four years. Right now the biggest fleet accounts at the gas stations are the State and the County. Most of the County jobs are "state funded "social workers to "help us" deal with the results of massive unemployment.

We are off the beaten track, no proximity to any major population areas. Liberal environmental rules have killed our County. The second and third growth trees are out there and can't be harvested. Many of them were seeded by the logging companies who realized that trees were a renewable resource, but they have been cut off from their investment in the future by liberal politicians.

Time for a change. Profit and corporations are not the enemy of America, idealistic self-strangulation is.

How richly ironic that the party of moochers accuse the Conservative party trying to reduce mooching, of mooching. Shouldn't you just embrace us and mop our furrowed brow and sing sweet soviet lullabies to us?
Remember, your supposed to be sweet, kind and understanding. As well as hypocritical, perverted, obtuse (not you specifically), delusional. Your politburo that is. Oh, sorry, party, I ment to say party. Freudian and all that.

You know, the funniest thing about this is that the article doesn't point out one very important thing that I know from having been homeless in Utah. In many many blue states when people lose everything and become dependent on the government in order to survive they are often presented with an option of a one-way bus ticket to any location of their choosing. Many go to states with large conservative religious institutions such as Utah because they think those churches will provide for them. In the case of the Mormon Church, they will, until the church realizes those people don't want to convert to their religion. At which point they lose their hotel, their new clothing store, and all the free food they can eat. At which point, they are back on government support. I was homeless for 2 years. Now I'm on my feet, own a house, college educated, and don't struggle paycheck to paycheck. How do I do it? My conservative beliefs and work ethic tell me to not count on anything or anybody to be there for me, which means I have to work hard every day. The time my family received government aide was understood to be a hand up and not a handout. More people need to realize this. Now, my taxes go to a government that use then as they see fit, including helping those less fortunate. They don't give out a one way ticket to make the problem somebody elses.

Everyone that gives you anything, wants something for it.

Be ready to pay.

Da Komrade, 50% of employed people in our County work for the Party,,,errr I mean, the Collective,,errrr the Government, the region is completely under the domination of the glorious state. Komrade Governor did a wonderful thing when he cleared the way for or government Komrades to join the SEIU so that they have created a socialist voting bloc. Of course many of them were brought in from the State controlled schools to "balance" the native population.

We have almost pushed the capitalist running dogs out of the region and soon it will be completely Blue.

There is a resistance movement of the hardcore imperialists but we will be able to round them up and send them to the reeducation facilities in the valley very soon. They can do nothing, our operatives are trained to immediately report to authorities if they hear the sound of a chainsaw.

I'd say you're 99% accurate. In terms of this statement, I'm a 1%-er. If I give you something it's because I don't expect to get it back. I don't trust people enough to get my stuff back. Probably because I've been ripped off a lot. If I lend it out I'm prepared to deal with losing it, this I don't lend it out unless I can part with it permanently. If I get it back I'm very thankful.

glad you got on your feet, we need more people willing to take care of themselves and not depend on someone else... Most of the churches where Im from donate time and money to homeless shelters in the area, however you said once they figure out you wont convert they cut off the handouts.....I hate to sound heartless but unless you are completely unable to provide for yourself, the handouts should stop. Handouts IMO should get you from point A to B, not keep you dependant.

It's fun to watch liberals post about things they don't understand. It makes you get how Obama got elected.

I'm in a red state that is listed as taking federal dollars. But, guess where that money is going? Almost all of it is going to our 35 per cent minority population, who all vote Democrat. I'm betting that is the case with all of the other red states as well.

It is more than okay with me if Obama stops sending that money here. But, I don't think he's going to do that.
