I'm bored, just got off work, and came home to drink a 6 pack of Bud Light Platinums. Same cost as Bud Light, but roughly 2x as strong. Figured I'd try and make a home here since arfcom banned me and won't unlock my account. Whats going on?

Bud Light Platinum is all I drink (unless someone gives me one). Very good beer. Very smooth and not a lot of aftertaste. CAN"T stand whiskey! That comes from my partying days in the eighties when I got sick of it and kept getting sick off of it. Never again.

I frequently enjoy beers, too, but nothing that has the word "light" on the label. What I enjoy doesn't let light through.

Bud Platinum is good when it's hot out. Right now I'm sitting down w/ a Blue Moon and since that I'm thinking about beer, I need to restock up on Oatmeal Stout. I love the good beer section/make your ow six-pack at Whole Foods.

Macallan 15 fine oak with a few ice cubes or Rekya vodka with a lime wedge. Both are incredibly smooth and great to sip on after a hard day of work.

Is the alcohol content really 2x as much? I don't drink beer a lot anymore (and it's Becks or StPauli when I do), so I'm not familiar with the Bud Platinum. I've seen it on the shelf but didn't pay it much mind.

Well, I looked it up and it is a higher alcohol content .. 4.2% for regular Bud Light, 6% for Platinum. For the money, I guess that's a good deal if you're looking for a beer buzz.

Somehow, the words platinum (a relatively rare, and valuable element) and Budweiser (ubiquitous low grade beer) seem to be polar opposites.

My preference is fine bourbon (leaves out Jim & Jack etc), nothing under 90 proof, straight in a crystal Glencairn whiskey glass. If I am enjoying one of my Buffalo Trace Antique Collection bottled unfiltered and cask strength @ 143 or 126.6 proof I will add maybe 6 drops of spring water to open it up.

OK everyone... point taken. I have tried it neat, as well as with a splash of water and with my whiskey stones but I am still a little new to scotch and need to water it down a bit and like it below room temp for now so there is a little less bite. I do use distilled ice cubes I make just for drinks so can I get 1/2 credit? LOL

Ok; whiskey snob here; rye is not bourbon, and bourbon is not rye but both are whiskey.

By federal law bourbon has to be a minimum of 51% corn, just about all are higher some approaching 70% with rye or wheat as the second grain and malted barley for fermentation. There have been experiments with as many as 5-6 grains but still a minimum of 51% corn.

On the other hand rye has to be at least 51% rye and again most are higher some 95% rye with only malted barley added for fermentation.

Everyone has to start somewhere, I started on mixed drinks like whiskey sours etc. I would never recommend someone start with George T Stagg (143 proof) straight, but start out with quality.

Here's a little secret, you have heard the term "top shelf" for the best quality?? That is the way most liquor stores stock their shelves, start at least second shelf down and never drink Jim or Jack except with 3/4 coke.

Wow! What month is it? Some of the best beers are out right now and some of you are wasting time with Platinum?
:crying:I can sum it up as the beer of choice for teenage boys to get teenage girls drunk. It has no beer taste whatsoever. If you want a beer buzz quick and you haven't eaten all day, pound a few in ten minutes like stale Mountain Dew.

I used to drink Budweiser/Bud Light back when I first started drinking beer. Now I prefer beer like my women. Thick, dark, and fluffy! No, I KEED. I actually like my coffee like I like my women and I don't like coffee. Again, I KEED I KEED!

If it's cold and says "Beer" somewhere on the label, I'm golden.

Otherwise, if I want the occasional nip of something more hardy, it'll be a shot n' a half of Templeton Rye with a cherry and 2 or 3 cubes.

"Room temperature" does not mean the temperature of the room. Store the bottles in a cool, dark location; a clean, but not damp, cellar is perfect.

Definately like Bud Light Platinum!!! I usually dring Coors Light, but I've been hooked on Platinum lately. Im not too picky about my beer though. Pretty much anything light and domestic is good.

Brown and English or Irish.

Newcastle is the best beer of all time. Light domestics in the summer but colder months my Irish comes out and I drink dark beer.

Dark beer (Arrogant Bastard, Torpedo, usually IPAs) and Irish whiskey go well together, sometimes I switch to Canadian Whiskey like Pendelton.

For bourbon, Elijah Craig 12yr at $22 is about the best you can get for the money. I prefer that, Eagle Rare, Knob Creek, or Buffalo Trace with coke, preferably made with sugar not corn syrup. If I'm out at the bar I go to they make a killer old fashioned and a rye buck.

Vodka, I don't really care as long as its smooth, Russian Standard and Reyka are what I'm drinking right now. Usually with lime and a splash of tonic or seltzer.

In general I don't drink rum or gin unless they're in a fizz, and I won't touch tequila unless its free.

There is certainly something to be said for cheap beer on a hot day though. I was raised on Olympia, Ranier, and Hamms, so I'm still partial to them on hot days.

This issues you speak of, such as price, addiction, DUI's, ect... all are a result of alcohol ABUSE. Not consumption. I drink here and there, and set limits. As do many people I know. People that set reasonable limits and don't abuse alcohol are fine. Plus, I'll bet I could mix you some drinks that you would love!! Not all alcoholic drinks are gross.

Don't make it cold with anything. The splash of water is intended to open up the flavor of the scotch, it does in fact change the profile. Making it cold only numbs the taste receptors and you will not get the full flavor of a finely crafted scotch.

To your first points, I come from a family of alcoholics. I remember my dad selling my Playstation when I was eleven to buy beer. That sucked and I have known nothing but problems coming from anyone who drinks (false rape allegations, DUIs, spending way too much money at bars, etc) However, with that said, I have nothing against anyone who decides to drink. I don't judge them.

To your second point that I quoted, maybe I spent too much time in the Marine Corps, but the only drinks I've ever known were like 75% E&J Brandy and 25% 2 day old flat Coke. I've enjoyed some quality rum and cokes. Lime juice, lots of ice, etc. But they're still not something I would pick up on a hot day and relax with. Its more of a "Sure, I'll have one so I don't look weird" thing.

I prefer a local micro-brewery here in Tulsa...but a six-pack runs about $9.50. So then I will go back to Budweiser for a few cans then switch to Bud Light to watch my girlish figure.
