So I recently got some cast from a guy who had sold his 9mm. Killer looking bullets but I have never used cast before and my two books have nothing for 147gr cast ( they weigh in at about 154 actually) with Unique and Alliant's site doesn't have anything either. Gentleman who I got them from recommended 3.8gr which since my normal load is 5.7 under a 124gr seems very very low. Anyone have any ideas I would like to hear them.

Thanks

Rich

Alliant & Speer are owned by the same corporation. They seem to refuse to acknowledge existence of any competitors in thier load data.

You should try Lymans Cast Bullet Handbook.
His number doesn't sound horrible. Whats his OAL? A powder charge without an OAL is pretty useless and potentially dangerous.

I am not suggesting you use a number without looking it up but personally I would go even lower and start closer to OAL 1.115 and 3.3 grs Unique. Actually I would use a powder that I am more familiar with and was not so dirty.

Just remember that using any internet data without book backup is asking for a KB.

Sorry , he mentioned 1.11 but I have never loaded a 9mm that short, most of the time I use 1.15. I will do 10 each running from 3.2 to about 3.6 and see how they go.

Good advice above. FWIW, I use a load of 3.6 of Unique with an OAL of 1.135 for LTC/flat nose. A very comfortable load and accurate out of G26 and G17. I loaded some out to 1.145 with the same charge and couldn't really tell any difference in function, recoil or accuracy.
