What's wrong with this ammo? That price isn't much more than bulk target ammo?

That's not HST. I wouldn't use it for anything but range practice.

It's a basic JHP, but I do still have some of these around in the 155gr version. They're not bad at all, just not as fancy as the HST for instance. Think of them like a hydra-shok without the little post in the middle.

The price is good because there is still a lot of it out there. Its an outdated bullet design, but not a bad one.

I have a few boxes of it around for "just in case".

I agree the HST would be a better carry choice, but if you are one that likes to stockpile ammo for emergencies this would be a good choice.

Thanks guys. I thought the bullet looked a bit different than HST - I don't see the huge serrations. Even if it's not HST, at that price I may start stockpiling, and I wouldn't feel too bad shooting this stuff at the range occasionally either. I really hate to spend upwards of a dollar per round to punch cardboard or paper.

Looks like a good deal.

FWIW, I'm fairly new to .40, got a 23 a little while back, and went straight to Academy and bought the $1.00/rd stuff (PDX1 180 gr). Came home, read a little, found about Winchester Q4369, and am switching to that- it's the same as the BT/SXT/PDX1, just brass cases instead of nickel- and is $21/50 at Academy (cheaper online ~$16/50) I only mention the Win stuff because I don't know if the Fed ammo mentioned will open consistently or not, but it seems that the Win Q has the same bullet as the PDX1 stuff, which is supposed to expand reliably.

It is a good deal to me, and I reload .40S&W!

Are you referring to the Winchester White Box .40 S&W Bonded 180gr JHP? I just picked up two boxes from Walmart and read that it was the same bullet as PDX1.

That's the one! I am stocking up on that- look up the prices from some of the online vendors!

True, the 165 PDX1 gives more ME, as do other offerings in lighter weights, but one big reason I bought a .40 was to shoot the 180s.

Be sure to look for the Q4369 on the bottom - Winchester does offer another white box USA-type 180 JHP, and it is not the same as PDX1.

Once I got home and realized what I had bought, I went back to buy the last four boxes on the shelf and couldn't get anyone to the sporting goods register to help me. :crying:

Is there a WWB equivalent in 9mm using the PDX1 bullets? I also have an LC9 to feed.

There is an equivalent but it isn't the PDX1 round. The 115 gr USA Winchester White Box JHP @1225 fps is the same round as the Win 115 gr Silvertip HP. It just isn't, silver. :D

Srsly, this is hot stuff- 383 ft lbs ME, and it feeds in my finicky 1940 Luger P-08, and cycles the action perfectly (it prefers 124, but I can't get 124 HP to feed, just FMJ).

The different boxes, and bullets:

I paid $14.00 a box for the 40 S&W 180 GR winchester. Really good deal. Bought direct from manufacture, Olin. No mail order just walk in at their range.

I was at Olins' outdoor range today. Still selling at $14 a box. I have 200 round of it at home so I passed today. The guy running the range told me the FBI ordered a Million rounds of the 180 grain 40 S&W. After the rounds were made and ready for delivery, the FBI would only take delivery of 500,000 round. This is why the good deal. Never trust the government in business.

"A MILLION rounds? Imagine the storage challenge!"

You issued a challenge and I have time on my hands. Here is my thoughts.

1,000,000/ 50 round box or 20,000 boxes.

If 36 boxes makes one square foot (20,000/36) you would need about 556 sqaure feet to store 1,000,000 round.

For comparison sake. If the average single wide trailer is (80 x16) 1280 square feet. You would need a little less than half a trailer.
