He volunteered to fight after being in an internment camp, he knows the importance of voting. Yet, there are those who cheerfully refuse to vote.

Nice story and photo however isn't the right TO vote simply the obverse of the right TO NOT vote, whether cheerfully or not?

A good story, really...but the only thing worse than not voting is being forced to. HH

Considering how few are informed, I am grateful for those who do not vote.

I believe the post was about dictatorships that REQUIRE you to vote when there is one name on the ballot. Being unanimously elected gives the "dick" a sense of self-importance.

This is true, and as long as one ignores the whole concept of civic duty, it's easy to PRETEND that choosing not to vote is just like choosing anything else.

We all have a right to free speech as well, and that includes the freedom NOT TO speak out, but we all know the sorts of things that happen when people fail to speak out against what is wrong. The same is true when people fail to vote and instead let apathy and disinterest reign in a democracy.

As the old truism says..."All that is necessary for evil to flourish is that good men do nothing".
