President Obama scored a clear two-to-one victory against Mitt Romney during the final presidential debate Monday night, according to a CBS News instant poll of uncommitted voters.

Immediately after it wrapped, 53 percent of the more than 500 voters polled gave the foreign policy-themed debate to Mr. Obama; 23 percent said Romney won, and 24 percent felt the debate was a tie. Uncommitted voters in similar polls gave the first debate to Romney by a large margin, but said Mr. Obama edged the GOP nominee in the second debate.

CNN had a much more realistic poll I thought (and I don't care much for CNN).. 48 Obama, 40 Romney.... I think it was a little closer than 48-40.. but I'd agree with the 12% that it was essentially a tie.

Bottom line, momentum is still w/ Romney. Obama did nothing to change that.

Romney just stated that if he was POTUS we would still have troops in Iraq.

CBS allowed Obama to use the 60 Minutes theme, logo, and clip of Scott Pelley (D, CBS) interviewing Mitt Romney; they are part of the Obama campaign.

Their idea of uncommitted voters (not to be confused with likely voters) is probably from a pool of democrats only.

poll with undecided women voters is what matters. Other than that people has already made their decision.

Women wants assurance of positive outlook, not egotistical attacks. They like looking in the eye, not looking at the table. They want peace, not war.

Look for PA and WI to go Romney.

The amazing thing to me is that only 53% of the Democrats that CBS polled at their office gave the edge to Obama. Criminy, I'd have thought those folks would have polled at least low to mid-80% for him.

Doesn't say much for their sense of commitment to liberalism.

You have to remember that CBS is a liberal Obama backer. I wouldn't believe any of their polls.

undecided voters are folks ashamed to say they are democrats, so its quite easily realistic to count those as democrat votes.

Obama looked like the challenger. He looked like a guy who was behind - agressive and trying to claw his way back into 1st place. Romney was much more cool, attacked Obama only occasionally (when well-deserved) and was in command of the facts. In short, he looked more presidential.

I don't think this will change the polls one bit. Romney will continue to enjoy the lead right into the election.

But according to the poll, both candidates were seen by debate watchers as able to handle the responsibilities of commander in chief - an important threshold for Romney since he is not the incumbent. But men and women see the commander in chief question very differently.

Majorities of both genders saw Obama as capable of handling that role, but women were split roughly 50/50 on whether Romney had proven himself on that measure, while men responded well to Romney's performance. Women also saw Obama as the stronger leader; men saw Romney as having the edge on leadership. As a result, women saw Obama as the winner of the debate by 22 points, while a plurality of men saw Romney as the victor on Monday night.

Bottom line: The debate appears to be a draw when it comes to affecting the vote of those who tuned in to the faceoff.

Half of those questioned say that the debate did not affect how they would vote, with 25% saying they are more likely to vote for Romney and 24% saying they are more likely to cast a ballot for Obama.

The sample of debate-watchers in the poll was 34% Democratic and 30% Republican.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/22/cnn-poll-who-won-the-debate/?hpt=hp_t1

The CNN poll, which one can infer would have no reason to favor a GOP candidate, essentially viewed the debate as a draw. That is not good news for Obama, who needed to make the final debate a "game changer." He failed.

The bolded portion above indicates that Romney satisfied possibly the key mission he had going into the debate -- to appear presidential and suitable to hold the position of C-in-C. Given Romney's gain in momentum, his other mission was to do no harm, and he evidently succeeded in that also.

The CNN poll over-sampled Democrats by 4 percent.

Good evening. What took you so long to get here...?

Apparently it only took him a few minutes to find a news organization willing to rely on a quicky internet poll to put out numbers completely different than the rest. (Forbes says 52-48; CNN says 48-40 with 12% tie, etc. - nobody else reporting numbers like CBS, kind of like when we have a "fire mission" on one of those anti-gun polls:upeyes:).

What Flintlocker doesn't get is that Romney did what he needed to do in the first debate.
