I have the opportunity to obtain one of these ARs for a very good deal. Do any of you have any interactions with them. All the reviews I could find on Google and YouTube were very positive, but I would rather hear some end-user reviews.

It has a lot of features I like, but I'm trying to decide if I should jump on the deal or wait a few more months and get a more expensive one.

I have no experience with it but Sig is not known for outstanding rifles.

Unfortunately, this has been my experience, as well.

OP, what exactly do you mean by "Very good deal?" Give us an actual price.

I have to agree. Todayís SIG is not the SIG of a decade ago.

You want to know if youíre getting a good deal but donít tell us the price?

Maybe you should ask or surf the Sig forums so people with actual experience can share thier opinion.

The reason I asked here is I've found guys on a forum for a certain gun will praise it more than guys for generic firearms or a different forum.

Also the price is $800 new in box.

Okay. But specific forums have a better signal to noise ratio.

Good luck.

As for the rifle the parts are good, if you know what your looking at break it down and check it for function, and gas key staking, trigger feel.

The ones I have seen through classes have all worked very well.
Like anything else you will find a crappy build ever now and again.

If it fits your budget and you like the quality you see buy it.

On paper it looks ok. Sometimes though it's the things we can't read about such as gas port size, etc. that bites us.

$800 seems to be a decent price from what I could find. Is there a back story on this AR, a reason for the lower price?

My buddy owns a gun shop and I have been helping him with CPL classes and he offered me cash or store credit. I love guns so I took the store credit option. He's also gonna drop the price on the Sig 400 to $800 for me.

Does he have any other black rifles that he will deal with you on?

$800 is a very good price.

Daniel Defense DDM4 V5 for $1300 but saving for that will add significant time to the wait and I won't have as much funds left for an optic and mags/ammo

This is a much better option IMO.

I agree the DD is much better and even worth the extra $500.

OP, does your friend have any Colt 6920's? Both the M400 and 6920 retail for roughly the same amount. An $800 6920 would be nuts.

Let's separate SIG America from SIG Europe. SIG America = the suck.

What are you going to use it for? The DD is a much better rifle, I have two and love them. If you are going to be going into harms way save you money for the better rifle. If you are going to be punching holes in paper at the range the Sig will serve you well.

DeLo
10-25-2012, 23:29
Just go for the DD and hold off on optics still you have the extra money to do it right. The Sigs are going for sub 800 on slick guns. Your getting more rifle with DD and the iron sights on it are good.

OP, don't go crazy and you don't have to spend over $1k, or even near that to get a good AR. Most people who spend $$$ just want bragging rights. Doing your homework is a great start, but remember... people with guns are very opinionated, and nothing is as good as their gun, so take every suggestion with a grain of salt. I have a cheapo AR, and an over priced AR, and when it comes down to it, I would rely on both equally... I won't give you my makes, nor will I give you suggestions, as it is YOUR gun, and YOU should make the final decision.

I appreciate it. The main reason for this post was any personal interactions with the gun. I know the LE6920 is everyone's favorite but I haven't read anything about the M400 aside from magazine reviews but I was hoping for my end user reviews on it good or bad.

What's the likelihood that an "end user" is going to be honest about his pride and joy. This is the AR world. Most here view their gear w/ rose colored glasses.

SIG America has put out some serious dogs like the 556 in 5.56mm and whatever they called the 7.62x39. With track records like that, I find it hard to believe that they'd put out anything else decent. I was a sucker for buying the 556. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Go to Sigforum's rifle forum and do a search for a person that posts as "micropterus" and Sig M400. He did a side by side comparison of his Sig M400 and his Colt 6920. The gist I got was that he likes the Colt better, but is also very happy and very confident with his M400 purchase. Check it out.

Best,

Dave

I get mine on Tuesday and from my research, for an entry level AR, good weapon. This is my first AR and I wasn't initially going to with a Sig even though my experience with SIG handguns has been fantastic. My 226 Navy has been worth every penny; my 2022 was fantastic. I hope my good experience with Sig continues.

I've decided to go with the Sig, and use the extra 500 on ammo and shoot this gun and ton and get to know what I like and dislike in an AR.

i think you made the right decision and while it's true the DD and colt AR15's are probably better guns 800 bucks for the SIG is not a bad price. if you were planning on going to afghanistan to take on the taliban you may want to spend the extra 500 bucks on the colt or DD but if all you're planning to do is put holes in paper or use the rifle for HD i think the SIG 400 will serve you well.

That's a lame way of thinking. When was it decided you had to be at war in order to have quality gear?

Got the M400 Enhanced this evening. Looks beautiful. Cleaned and lubed her all up and tomorrow I'm going to take it to the range and run 3-400rds through it and see how it runs. Put an EoTech XPS 2-0 on it.

I will post pictures and a range report tomorrow

Took my new M400 to the range today, 200 rounds, mostly 55gr type ammo, including WWB and Tulammo (it was free) and some PDX1. All Walmart rounds and it ran like a top.

Whelp, I attempted to go to the range today but all the hunters had the place full up and the wait time was in excess of an hour. I love to shoot, but it's too darn cold to stand there and pray for a lane to open.

I'm going to try to go tomorrow after work and get some time in.

300rds of Aguila 55grn .223 without any hiccups. And the irons were dead on at 50 and a little tweaking to get them on at 100. EoTech was a breeze to hookup and sight in. I must say that this gun has impressed me.

Congrats, but wait a few... the bashers will be along soon to say it jams, it doesn't shoot, it's not a real AR, it's blah blah...

Ignore them, and keep shooting!
