He has actually been around since 2001 and pretty popular in Korea. He has a few other songs I really enjoy too. This is just his first huge international hit.

In my midst of total boredom some years ago I started watching the South Korean channels on TV. I actually have watched many of Psy's videos and seen him perform on various shows on TV. He is far beyond 15 minutes of fame and is a top music artist in Korea.

You are very wrong. The reason why you know about this dude is because he this song is a massive hit in his world. As was mentioned before he's been performing since 2001.

His dad owns a company which as seen stock prices triple as a result of this video (yes, a short term bump, but money is money).

The song is slickly produced, as is the video, and the dude can really dance - even if you don't like the genre, these are things any rational person can readily admit.

Get with the times, grandpa.

The song's been number 1 in over 20 countries. For some reason it got to 1 in the billboard rap chart but only number 10 in the pop chart.

You can tell which GTers don't have anyone under 18 in their home who listens to chart music. Gangnam style was and is ridiculously popular.

Personally I love it, although that sideways dance is harder than it looks...

And Barbie Girl was the #-23239324324th song on the charts for a bagillion weeks.

20 years ago when music moved slower.

This, too, shall pass. I DO have under-18 yr olds in my house.

I'm sure Christina Agulastinka still sings. Just it isn't plastered on the bleepin world 24/7. Ditto for Justin Beburb. Heck - does he even sing anymore or just do appearances on other shows????

It will have it's time. . . and then fade. Just a fact of life. We've seen 100 "next greatest, put his/her time in, amazing talented, next best greatest faster harder mo listeners" people in the last 20 years. Where are they all?

I'm not saying he's not talented or that he's not popular in 20 countries. (ooooh!) What I'm saying is: This too shall pass.

Thank you for making my point.

1. No, the world has probably NEVER heard a #1 Korean hit being on/in their MSM.

The dude is not a flash in the pan. He has been an entertainer for a dozen years. He has already shown he knows how to milk this.

Yes, every band - including the all mighty Beatles are transient. In 80 years they are going to matter compared to today in a negative, fractional exponential way.

The other factoid is, the dude is known to roughly ONE BILLLION more people than you. If 99.98% of those lose interest (and they will) he will still have (10^9/10^4) hundreds of thousands of people who will cling to his sillycrap, and purchase every single silly song he has ever done in his life. That was his goal - he is achieving it.

I used the issue of the stock in his dad's company tripling to underscore how much homie blew up.

I had no clue about this song or the dance until a couple days ago when I was watching some end zone dances and other pro football celebrations when the commentator commented that one of them was "going Gangnam Style" with his dance. I looked it up and now cant get the song out of my mind.

PSY, the artist, was educated here in the USA.. HE went to a couple universities and went back home and started his music career.

Like it or not he has struck a note with the world with over 600 million views of his song. That's damned impressive no matter what your taste is.
