I am working a special detail staffing the county mobile command post until midnight for the county fair. Night number 3 and I am bored out of my mind. Thank goodness for the mobile hotspot. So anyway, what does everyone on GT do to pass the time? :wavey:

Yeah, I have read everything on GT that I usually follow and then some. Facebook is sort of sustaining. I am the only on duty paramedic at the fair (an ALS unit is just a radio away though). It has thus far been an uneventful week. Oh well, I guess I'll go make a round.

It's almost halloween, dress up like a chicken, run around the place making bets with random guys as to who can hug the most girls in half an hour.

I brought the nearest fire truck. That could get interesting.

It's almost halloween, dress up like a chicken, run around the place making bets with random guys as to who can hug the most girls in half an hour.

Interesting you should say that. There is a guy walking around holding a "Free Hugs" sign. No one seems to know what he is doing it for other than attention.

I last worked a squad 30 years ago, but at least back then, if someone in the ready room said "man, is it slow," or "damn, I'm bored" or anything similar, that was usually a guarantee of a six-car, high-speed TC in the last 30 minutes of the shift.

Just saying, maybe you ought to go pee now while you can. :)

I have built a life where I would never be bored. I have a never ending amount of things to do. Things that are adventurous. Things that are important, interesting, meaningful, fun, crazy.....

I love it, I am happy for it...but sometimes it gets tiring. Sometimes, I want total "nothing."

After a little "total nothing" I get bored and just turn back on my strange life.

I own my own business, what's boredom? :dunno:

Seriously, I envy anyone who has the time to be bored...I forget what that's like. I've *always* got something to do; send invoices, work up proposals, work on my website, fix some client issue, etc.

Outside of work and running my own business, how can you possibly be bored? So many great books out there - did you read "No Easy Day", Lone Survivor, or any of the other awesome books written by SEALs & other special forces that have come out the past few years?

Jeeze, get yourself an iPad and you literally have INSTANT access to hundreds of thousands of books in the iBookstore and through the Amazon Kindle app.

Get yourself a Netflix subscription and you can watch hours of movies and TV shows.

Go ride a bike.

Go for a run.

Go to the gym.

Go for a long walk.

Go out to eat.

Go to the range.

Seriously...bored?? Wow....

Ok, so I read your post more carefully and saw that you're bored during dead times at work....

Get yourself an iPad, and like I said, you can access probably over a million books (many for free), either stream movies from Netflix or Amazon Prime, or pre-load a couple flicks onto the device.

Or just play with any of the hundreds of thousands of apps available for it.... Heck, listen to some podcasts & learn someting new.

Learn something new. Life is too short to indulge boredom.

If necessity is the mother of invention, then boredom is surely the father.

I've been bored twice in my life. Both were when I was a kid. The first time, I wound up sweeping the porches, the steps, the walkway, the patio and the driveway. The second time, I wound up carrying a bottle of Windex, a roll of paper towels and a 6' ladder all the way around the house cleaning all the storm windows.

The key is to have a lot of half-ass hobbies. Teach yourself guitar, read, build stuff, work on cars, learn Linux, take girls' clothes off, get a pet, etc.

If you get bored when you're stuck at work, get a smartphone. You'll put the entire internet, Kindle, TuneIn Radio, Tapatalk and Netflix at your fingertips. Pound for pound, they're probably the most effective boredom relief device there is.

Like many I work out....and there are plenty of things to see at the gym

While I have a few hobbies many times I surf the web looking for crazy deals on things I want to buy just can't see to get myself to pay full price. However, I have scored some serious bragging rights deals.

A LNIB Glock 17, 600 rounds of WWB, two mags and 2 33 round mags...$400

I recently stole a roll of silver quarters on Ebay for $120 - the way people have been buying silver on there I'm not sure how this fell off everyone's radar. I'm sure this buyer was po'ed.

However, I like music, movies and surfing GT. When my wife works late and its nice I go for a walk.

Love is too short to be bored.

If you ride one, you'll want one. I went with the intention of trading my Marin Bobcat Trail toward an FX 8. Rode the Rumblefish and took it home.

Load shotgun shells. I try to get a 5 gallon bucket of 20 ga skeet loads done at a setting. Running a MEC hydraulic loader is never boring. LOL!

Well, the OP is stuck at work and bored. So, even if he could wax said carrot once or more, he would still have hours to kill. And since he's working, it's not possible to ride a bike or go for a jog, etc.

OP: I feel bad for you. Being bored sucks and being bored while being captive outside the comfort and flexibility of your home is worse. It's like being stuck in a hotel room while travelling for work, but not being able to do hookers and blow.

That leaves few options. GT is one. Since you have wifi, I would catch up on TV/movies on Netflix. Breaking Bad, American Horror Story. Maybe read a book? Not sure I would ever be that bored.
