AP poll: Majority harbor prejudice against blacks

WASHINGTON (AP) Racial attitudes have not improved in the four years since the United States elected its first black president, an Associated Press poll finds, as a slight majority of Americans now express prejudice toward blacks whether they recognize those feelings or not.

Those views could cost President Barack Obama votes as he tries for re-election, the survey found, though the effects are mitigated by some Americans' more favorable views of blacks.

Always been here, always will be. Anyone who thinks otherwise lives in an alternate reality.

AP poll: Majority harbor prejudice against blacks

Easily predictable.

In other news: Majority have looked at statistics on crime, welfare, etc. Those "fighting racism" have concentrated on doing so by convincing people they are wrong, rather than by making them wrong. It appears that the effort has just made them "more right" - particularly the "fight discrimination with reverse discrimination" strategy.

Prejudice, stereotypes, etc., will not spread or survive unless people can see them reinforced by enough real life examples. Make up a stereotype about any group - race, sex, religion, etc. - and no one will buy it unless they can see enough of it in reality. "White people can't dance" - guess what, go down to the club and watch.

let's suppose for a moment, the ambassador and the two former SEALs were black...

I think it works both ways.

I could be wrong, but my impression is more Blacks are speaking out from a clear-headed, moral, and conservative viewpoint than ever before. This isn't just random acts of separating themselves from the "group think", and self-limiting general political philosophy of American Blacks.......but, a blossoming trend.

That "trend" is in a crossfire between political interests, and their "group think"......but, it is really important for those willing to take the heat, to not be silenced. Right now, it seems like there are plenty of Blacks who are speaking out, and although members of other races do see, and hear these things......all we can do is listen to them, and support them. It's other blacks who must be persuaded, and members of other races can't do anything of real substance to help their situation.......Blacks, NEED to re-capture their honor and integrity within their own generally held racial philosophy to make the difference.

If American Blacks are to improve their condition, they must do it......nobody, or no racially separate entity can do it for them. On the top of the list for Blacks to come to grips with, is government, especially Democrats, are self serving, and helping them isn't the main objective. The very first thing Blacks need to do is break from the pack, and quit relying on government to be the solution to their problems. American Blacks have been manipulated against their best interests.....and lied to. :steamed:

One other thing Blacks will have to deal with, is racism will never be eliminated, and that Blacks have their own racists, too. Other races, don't take the race-baiters (KKK, for instance) and parade them around like they are pillars of truth......(Jesse Jackson, for instance) Blacks need to understand that skin color doesn't mean the person who is Black, has an honorable objective in mind for them. These so-called "spokesmen" for the Black race can be just as racist, and self serving, and manipulative, as any racist white, or Asian, or Hispanic, or whatever...........We ALL need to reject them, on whatever terms they offer.......

I will say this: Obama himself has not improved my perspective of blacks and the entire race's willingness to blindly support him no matter how severe the ineptitude tells me a lot about their racism.

Link to the polling data (http://surveys.ap.org/data/GfK/AP_Racial_Attitudes_Topline_09182012.pdf). They interviewed 1,071 adults. It appears they they interviewed more Democrats than Republicans, 2010: 37-27 and 2012: 35-27 (page 30). Race break down (page 33) was as follows...
Hispanic: 2010: 13 - 2012: 14
2+ Races, Non-Hispanic: 2010: 1 - 2012: 1

That is a point many people have noticed.

I notice the media ridiculing John Sununu for suggesting that Colin Powell endorsed Obama because he is black. The Washington Post said: "John Sununu: Race-baiting buffoon" - really? Can any of them provide some examples of What Powell and Obama have in common, other than race? No.

Of course, that same left-nut articles said:

Of course there is a pride among African Americans that a black man is president.

BUT

By Sununu’s logic, Obama’s eroding support among white voters is due to white people being proud that “somebody of your own race” is running for president. It’s an ugly notion that Eugene Robinson forces us to confront in his terrific column today.

Yes, clearly there's no logical reason why The One could lose the election.

They can't let the liberal masses realize that there are deficiencies in the modern hard left party platform, lest there be a Clinton-style reform movement back towards a more moderate position, not when their decades-long neo-socialist game plan is so close to producing a Marxist utopia...though I think they were overconfident about their political propaganda dominance and the 2010 conservative backlash caught them completely by surprise.

You know, I wasn't racist when all this started. But I'm thinking of signing up. You get called something you're not for long enough by a group that acts monolithically and figure, hey, might as well own it.

In every prejudice there's at least a grain of truth. A cliche takes over the White House and look what happens...

This goes for blacks as well. They didn't differentiate the races that I saw in the poll. They didn't mention their polling population. More blacks are killed by blacks, this is not done by a people that loves themselves. Just like more mooselimbs kill mooselimbs than the US ever did. The Sunni and ****e thing is ridiculous.

And if Powell had run against Romney as a Republican in the primary, I'd have voted Powell. Of course, that was before he endorsed Obama, so I might have been wrong.

I respect your opinion, but I just don't see a "unique" and "differentiated" contribution from Powell in all those years with Reagan admin. and those after that he served...

other than being black giving the impression than each admin was well-rounded.

In the AP race poll I linked to in post #8 (http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=19560729&postcount=8), they did break out the race, in addition to breaking out political leanings. It's important to note it appears more Democrats were polled than Republicans and Independents.

What I do find interesting is in poll after poll, they always over sample Democrats (sometimes by a significant percentage). Strange considering the political leanings (http://www.gallup.com/poll/158399/2012-electorate-looks-like-2008.aspx) of the country shows a slight lean to the right rather than the left.

I did not see this at first pass but here it is.

AP did not say they surveyed WHITE people about Blacks !!!! They said "Americans" were surveyed.

This means within the mix are Blacks, White, Hispanics, Asians, etc.

1. Since it is unlikely that Blacks would express racism against Blacks, the real final count would be even higher than reported.

2. Depending on actual number surveyed and whether it is statistically representative of the entire population, Asian and Hispanic also expressed racism toward blacks.

This corrolary is even more interesting than what was first reported.

Madglock17, blacks may not say it out right, other than throwing epithets around like words have no meaning, but the express it by killing one another in shocking numbers. How this translates is, "if they care for their own, I certainly don't care for them either." Right or wrong they do display a lack of..... I don't know how to put it, pride? In themselves?

Majority of poor uneducated blacks are racist. Whether they realize / admit it themselves. I.e. they dislike people of other races and will always support their own regardless if it's right or wrong. The perfect example was actually not the last election but OJ trial.

Whites used to be that way but a lot has changed in the last 60 years or so.

I voted for Herman Cain in the primary; if Allen West ever runs he will have 100% of my support.

I will not vote for Obummer, not because he's black but because he is either incompetent or an evil genius.

It's time once again to play the "RACE CARD". The most over played card in America! After all isn't that the reason why the Bama's record was never questioned during his first four years of office?, and will probabley result in him getting re-elected!? How sad.
