I recently got a good deal on a Gen 2 G23, but would prefer to have a spare G19. So I'm planning to either trade the G23 for a G19 or trade the complete upper (plus mags and ejector) for a G19 upper and turn the G23 into a G19.

Before I do that I just wanted to be sure I wouldn't have any problems running a G19 slide (either Gen 2 or Gen 3) on my G23 Gen 2 frame. I noticed that the rear frame rails on my G23 are significantly longer than on 9mm Glocks. Do the longer frame rails cause problems in 9mm?

I was always under the impression that once 9mm Glocks switched to 3 pin frames the frames were identical across 9mm/.40/.357sig, right? If so, why did Glock switch to shorter frame rails on the .40s?

No Need to change out the slide. All you need is an aftermarket 40 to 9 conversion barrel and 9mm magazines. If you don't reload, any barrel will do (Lone Wolf, Storm Lake, etc.) If you do reload there can be some issues. This comes up every week or 2, so do a search and you'll find plenty of information.

Also, Glock 32 barrel will drop in and give you .357 Sig if you so desire. Happy Glocking.

I put a Lone Wolf 40 to 9 barrel in my Gen 3 23 and had no problems. Original extractor and ejector worked fine.

Thanks for the replies. I'm certainly open to trading the entire G23 for a G19. The only reason I'm considering doing just the slide swap is because I live in NJ. Here in NJ there's a whole permit process for handguns that, depending on your town, can take months to get. So a lot of people might not already have a permit and are able to do a trade. And I'd rather not trade out of state and have to pay shipping and FFL fees, which are high in NJ.

I know about the 9mm conversion barrels, but don't plan to ever shoot .40 through it again so would rather not spend the $100+ on the conversion barrel when I could do an even trade for a G19 or G19 upper.

So does anyone know about the older Gen2 G23 frames with the longer rear frame rails and their compatibility with G19 uppers? Thanks

So does anyone know if I'd have any potential problems converting a Gen 2 G23 frame into a G19?

You could order a complete G19 slide from Glock Meister, send them a email or call about compatibility with your frame. It'll probably work fine. Sell your G23 slide on gunbroker. YMMV
