Interesting specs on both guns.

I know the new 34 was designed to fit into the shooter's box for overall length, etc.

But on the G17L, the overall is 8.85 inches, with a 6.02 inch barrel.

The Glock 34 is 8.82 inches with a 5.31 inch barrel.

If the choices were between the two, the sight radius is basically the same.

SO, you get more barrel length with the 17L.

Does it make more sense to get the old 17L than the new one for greater fps?

FWIW, the slide length on the G34 is 8.15 according to the Glock Annual. Therefore, there is a 0.7in. difference in the sight radius.

Interesting,

I got my info here, from what I think is Glock USA.., on the length.

My guess is that for about all the things that either of these guns would be reasonably used for, the difference in muzzle velocity between the two would not make a difference in the outcome of whatever the event or situation.

In 9mm I like the G34 over my 17L, yet in the 40S&W I like the 24 over 35. No clue as to why , but just how it is.

It makes sense if you want a longer gun to compare with your buddies...

The 17L is a long side with a "square" front, making it the ugliest factory Glock ever built. Based on that alone, I would get a 34.

I feel the 17L's extra slide weight mitigates perceived recoil a bit more.

Also, with target sights, I believe the 17L is slightly more accurate on longer shots.

Rapid target transitions are slightly slower with the 17L in my experience.

Haha, Umm, right above your post is the link that show's they're almost the same.

Did you see that I post that? Anyway, their site is wrong, or you're wrong.

Thanks guys, looks like no diff in velocity.

I'll just go by what feels right.

I have both my 17L and my 34 disassembled in front of me and Njanear's and wallacefan's measurements are correct.

i'd been using my G17 with a "--" connector for competition and thought about a G34 so I rented one. Everyone that shot it said "I've got to get one of those!"

Only problem was that it was $625. I figured I'd go ahead and get one anyway. Next day at the range a guy mentioned he hated Glocks and had a bunch of them, including a 17L with about 300 rounds thru it. Bought it for $150 less than the G34 was new.

I think I'd have been happy with either but after a couple of weeks of shooting the 17L I have to say it is great fun to shoot and so accurate it makes me look good.

You are not alone.

I couldn't decide either so I bought both! 17L is currently in jail and I think it's absolutely gorgeous.

Something interesting I noticed about my 6" 24....

I finally chronoed my comp reloads. At under minimum charge weight for 175gr lead, I am pushing 950 fps. Recoil is less than that of a G19 with standard 9mm range ammo.
Just something I found out and thought it was mighty high for 3.7gr of bullseye.

Happy 9mm-ing.

I plan on buying one of the two this Saturday at the Gun Show in Tulsa, leaning towards the 17L but I'll see what kind of deal I can get. I want a brand new one but I think a Gen 4 is NOT what I want. To many problems :crying:
