View Full Version : 300 blackout build 18" barrel
Looking at a Wilson Combat 18" chambered in 300blk. I'm not finding much info on this. What do you guys know about this specific barrel?

First time I have seen an 18" barrel for .300BLK....
I bought an upper assy. from 556 tactical with that barrel and it is very accurate. An 18 inch barrel really isn't going to have any benefit over a 16 inch barrel from the information i have read. It was the only upper i could find locally at the time so i bought it and i have been very pleased with it so far.
I know it doesn't offer a lot of benefit over the 16" but I'm going for the SPR look so I wanted 18".

You will be very pleased with that barrel, it shoots sub moa at 100 yards.
I guess I'll order one then.

300 blk in an 18 inch tube seems an awful lot like wiping with steel wool.
Sure, you can do it, but it doesn't make any sense.

I agree. The round is designed around the SBR. All that extras barrel is a waste/hindrance.

i have a friend, co- worker that built a 300 blk out with a wilson 16" fluted barrel. it is very accurate 100-300 yards. the local range only goes to 300 yards. when i get ready to build that is the direction i am going. i like the fact you can hunt with it verses 223 or 5.56. his average group size runs about a 1"-1 1/4" at 100 yards.

Yep max effiecient powder burn is all done by 16"! Any extra barrel lenght is useless! May look nice but your just carry extra wt for nothing. If you are set at 18" make sure you have a CARBINE gas lenght or you'll not get full function except with Suppers and even then it might cause problems! No Mid or rifle lenght gas systems. I have a 16" carbine and it a great round to shoot - so nice punching .30 caliber holes in stuff in an AR platform! I can run subs or suppers out of mind with zero problems. I don't run surpressed at all.

It does have the carbine gas length.

Then you should be ok as for feeding subs/suppers. All depends on the port size some barrel makers are using different ports sizes so the use of subs to suppers may work great or maybe problematic. My 16" Carbine CMMG works very well with either. Good luck with it, come back with some Chrony results I'd be interested see what you get for velocity.
Will do. Barrel should be in by Tuesday then I have to find time for it to assemble the upper.

First shot of subsonic in a cold barrel will be much slower than the remaining shots.
This will chance POI significantly at 100 yards.
Barrel came in and I must say I'm impressed. Very nice looking and seems like good quality. Just what you would expect from Wilson Combat. Now I guess I'll find out if it shoots. 229032229033229034

Looks nice - can you measure the port size? Waiting patiently for range report!
I don't have anything measure an opening that small. With the holidays coming up and work and everything a range report probably won't happen till after the first of the year.
