So I saw this glock 30S... Basically a G36 upper and a G30 lower... What you guys think? Is it worth getting rid of my 30sf and going with this or I wont tell the difference with the 36 slide width while im carrying?

The 30S is the new Glock Handgun coming out soon!

I was told the narrow slide makes it more comforable to carry Inside The Waist Band. Also I was told it will fit some holsters designed for the Glock 19 or 23.

Maybe someone with a G30, G36 hybrid could shed some light on this.

This is being discussed in the GSSF forum and the rumors in there are that it is legit. I am definitely interested. I just picked up a 19, had this been available I probably would have gone that direction.

For me personally its not so much how light it is, but rather how much narrower the slide is. The regular 30 is bulky as hell to me. The 36 slide is much slimmer.

right on!i love mine ,i got a chance last year to pick up a late-2000-g36(in tupperware) for 500.00 it had the lazermax in it that i sold on ebay for 215.00,i then picked up a 30 frame on gunbroker for 125.00 done deal, its a great gun, ccws awesome.the inside of my buddies 30 slide and my 36 is spot on,glock didnt have to make the 45 slides that thick.i guess they made the 20 (high press)and then just made the 21(low press) the same.glock is not going to be making a gun out of 2 seperate guns,i dont know why people have nothing better to do than to start rumors:dunno:that picture has to be photoshop, dont you think to get around the standard-sf frame deboggle they would just do it on a gen 4 frame!:faint:if you want one of these your prob going to have to piece one together.but yes the balance of the hybrid w/9 rd mag is perfection.

Wonder why they are using the Gen3 frame and not the smaller Gen4 Frame ?? Id love to have one but I dont have a issue with my 30SF being to thick to carry IWB, I love my 30SF... thinking my next GSSF purchase will be the G21 G4...

I think since they gonna call it the G30S obviously its gonna be Slim... So they probobly makin not only the slide slimmer but the frame will also be an SF... If they dont then thats just a waste...

hope Glock do the 21S, there is no reason to have that thick and heavy of a slide on the 21 only for the 20.

11-10-2012, 19:15
Glock enthusiasts have been toying with this config for a while. I guess it's a good factory purchase option. I haven't weighed mine, but I hear it's 5 oz lighter. It's OK and a nice option especially if you want to keep the 36 and 29/30 option for carry. Is it that revolutionary? I dunno.. IF the grip were truly slimmer (not SF) but overall circumference dimensions were altered on the entire grip, then I guess it has merit as a NEW offering from Glock. Not sure though...time will tell. Let's face it the gun nuts will buy it and think it's the greatest ever...

how does the slide weight change the feel of the recoil (i ask cause i think a long slide on a G36 that weighed the same as a G30 woudl soften the shooting even more )
i love my G36 but want a long slide to hold a G21 barrel and maybe even the recoil spring assembly (i have shot the G21 and its a softy)

The G30 frame with the G36 slide seems to have a little more recoil to me. I have tried the G30 slide on the G36 frame and it makes it less snappy to shoot...it looks strange though.

i think you can buy a heavier aftermarket dual spring, but a fully supported aftermarket barrel might be tough to find, unless a glock 30 barrel is the same.

Congrats. Looking forward to a report.

And I heard about this at my armorers course last summer as well. Trying to remember, but I'm thinking the shooting was reported as even better than the regular G30s. Those are soft and accurate as it is, any improvement would be sweeter.

Now, if we could get the standard slides on the compac frames...

Anyone with a micrometer that has both a 30 and 36 that can measure the difference in slide width ?

From the Glock Website:

G30 slide width = 1.27 inch / 32.5 mm
G36 slide width = 1.10 inch / 28.0 mm

For comparison:

G19 slide width = 1.18 inch // 30.0 mm
G21 slide width = 1.27 inch // 32.5 mm

I have held and shot a 30/36 hybrid and truthfully the size just kind of reminds me of a normal pistol like Sig, Beretta, or whatever. Most handguns are wider in the grip than the slide, even 1911's are.

From the Glock Website:

G30 slide width = 1.27 inch / 32.5 mm
G36 slide width = 1.10 inch / 28.0 mm

For comparison:

G19 slide width = 1.18 inch // 30.0 mm
G21 slide width = 1.27 inch // 32.5 mm

Those dimensions are actually for the frame widths. I know the website has arrows showing the slide width, but there are a lot of errors in Glock's data all over the place.

I just now measured a G30 & a G17 slide... about 1.127" & 1.05", instead of 1.27" & 1.18". A G21 slide is the same width as a G30 & a G19 is the same as a G17. I do not have a G36 to measure.

Yes, it is.

That's the point of a G30S... to reduce the slide width, but keep the larger G30sf frame along with it's 10 round mag capacity. A G30S is a G30sf with a G36-width slide on it.

Sorry, but I still do not understand what you mean.

The G30S is a new style gun (S for slim) with a narrow slide like the G36 (which has a narrow, or "slim" frame). But that narrow slide is mounted on a wider frame (basically the type used on a G30SF, or short frame). The 30SF frame is "shorter" than a regular G30, but the same width as a regular G30 (the orignal size G30). G30's, G30SF's & G30S's all have wider frames than a G36.

Are we together on all this?

hey,i carry the hybrid everyday, the part of the 30 frame that says sf,stick out farther then it does on the 36 frame and eveyone says see its fatter so what the advantage, well just look at your 19-23 frames they do the same thing,i have been ccw my hybrid as the 36 all week and when i go to pull it out of my comptac it just about flies out of my hands, some people w/big hands cant use the pancake slim 36 frame, and the hybrid balances sooo much better then the 30 (stick o butter) thick slide,i think the 30s will sell great.

Oddly enough I have never heard of a single malfunction with the 30/36 hybrid. The balance is so much better, a standard G30 feels like it is going flop out of my hand the slide is so top heavy and fat.
