When I was a boy, my Mamma would send me down to the corner store with just a $1 bill.

And I'd come back home with potatoes, bread, eggs, cheese, milk and coffee.

Sure can't do that now-a-days.

Too damned many security cameras!

Reminds me: I worked at a gas station back in 1998. We had a mini cigarette stand placed on the front counter but in a place where I couldn't see it very well and the cameras couldn't either. We had to fill it a lot, but rarely did someone buy them from the stand, if they wanted that brand, they would usually ask at the counter. It was clear most were stolen, mostly by mostly by teenagers. One day I moved it back. The rep came in the next day and asked why it wasn't up front where it was. I told him because kids were stealing them. He said he didn't care, he wanted the stand where it was, and had paid the gas station owner to have it there. He said kids stealing them wasn't a problem. Couldn't figure it out at first, but it was an investment.... making future customers as the older one's were all dying of cancer.

Funny. After I stopped laughing, I recalled a Depression story that my late father told me.

He was sent to the store, by his mother, with 25 cents. He was told to get 2 pounds of hamburger, a dozen eggs and two loaves of bread--------and don't forget to bring home the change!!!
