View Full Version : Do taxis in your city do this? Why...?

Around here, any time there's a taxi that pulls over to pick somebody up (as in, pulls outside and waits for them to come out) or drops somebody off, they will stop right in the middle of the street. There's often an empty space they can pull into, but they will double park against it. On narrower streets, they block traffic from going through.
I can't for the life of me figure out why they do it, wondering if it happens where you're at too? :dunno:

Are, by chance, your taxi drivers from some place at where the most modern vestige of transportation was the plastic water bucket they balanced on their head as they walked barefoot down the unpaved main street in the capital city next to the open trench that served as the sewer as are some/many/most of the taxi drivers here? If so the actual surprise should be that they actually managed to get the taxi into your neighborhood (relatively) undamaged not that they stopped in the middle of the road. But maybe that's just my noncorrect view of the situation.

My first thought, if someone attempts to rob them, just hit the gas and they have a clear path in front of them, rather than trying to get out of a parking space.
Edit: By the way, Yes I have noticed this, but never gave it much thought.

Ding ding ding ding!
Sorry, I have no chicken dinner which to present you with.
It also helps with fender benders or false claims of fender benders.
My job field,in our city the drivers have permits that allow "temporary" double parking and or traffic delays. As ta the other reason, check out 13WLOS.com. Look at last wed.One of my drivers were involved in a incident that G.O.O.D. was mandated.'08.
The bullet missed his head by inches.

Taxis are priced so insanely here that I've only used them two or three times. It costs me $500 to fly to Moscow and $50 to get to the airport.

I hear you but if you factor in parking fees sometimes the taxi is cheaper when flying out of town for a few days or more.

He's in Canada.
In my city they do something like that. I think it is just to get in and out fast. The faster they get people moving th emore fares they can get in a day. Of course there are those who get you to the ballpark via Oakland when you are trying to see the Giants.

They will literally sit there for 20 minutes sometimes. It's ridiculous.
The robbery theory is probably true, but I also think they have an entitlement complex.

I imagine they only sit there 20minutes when..
a. someone takes a long time to pay them
and/or
b. someone takes a long time to unload their stuff from the cab.
You can't really blame the driver for that, and I doubt it's anything to do w/ entitlement.
I got more important things to worry aboot(canadian), like maybe how is it that my bread is toasted darker on one side than the other...

Only time I see a taxi is driving people without a car to the bank.
How do they have money if they don't have a car? ;)

more than likely they're prohibited from parallel parking for this reason. Besides, they might be blocked in by double parkers.

keeps door from being ripped off when the fare opens the door without looking first
Maybe they are afraid of the IEDs?
Seriously though - nothing like that in Calgary.
I never, ever seen a cab driver stopping like that.
However...after my summer vacation in BC...well, I wasn't impressed with the drivers there in general, so maybe it's just a local thing?
