He means gas prices are between $2.69 and $2.99, depending on where you go, not that gas started out at $2.69 and is now $2.99.

Last I checked gas was around $3.29 up here in Austin, but that was 3 or 4 days ago. I haven't checked prices recently, my car is still almost full.

Yup. Prices are getting nearer to historical norm vs wholesale prices. They've been 30-40c a gallon too high for over a month.

I don't have a diesel and never have. I seem to remember when diesel was cheaper than gasoline but now it's more expensive. Does anyone know why this happened? EPA?

Diesel used to be a by-product, a waste fuel. It's part of the production process, and they used to just sell it. But now there has been laws enacted saying the diesel has to have less than 10 parts per million of sulfur, which means they need to refine the diesel. So the extra cost is paying for all the refineries they have to build now, since they didn't have enough refineries before.

At least that's the story I heard, but I might be wrong.

I wouldn't get too used to it. I think speculators got out of petroleum because they feared a Romney victory. In the 2008 campaign, candidate Obama indicated a desire to see $8 a gallon gasoline, to inspire conservation. Two days after his reelection, Obama made some federal lands off limits to oil exploration\exploitation. I suspect fracking doesn't have much future.

A suggestion: if you have any available funds for investment, put them in a gas or oil ETF.

Don't be surprised when the price of oil and gas start ticking back up.

Yep. If everyone can afford fuel, it's too cheap. Go to $8.

Paid 3.67 for diesel last night, I get 19 mpg and drive a whopping 30 miles a week to and from work. I still smoke out tailgaters when I can though, it's worth the cost of wasted fuel. I haven't had a gas vehicle in years, just the wife's car. I figure it best to not worry too much about the cost of fuel when compared to the cost of not working.

Diesel was cheap when only truckers used it, in the 80s MB started selling lots of diesel cars & the fuel companies discovered affluent people were buying diesel... suddenly the price was more than gas! I'm sure it's just a coincidence!:faint:

Here in SoCal fuel just dropped below $4. We have "Special formula" socialist fuel that is always more $$ than the rest of the US.
