Hot water, Dawn dish soap and a parts brush will do it .

Odorless mineral spirits works very well also.

Heat.

I use aluminum pans for removing cosmoline. I place items in the pans and place them in the sun. Works great.

A pan of diesel fuel and a paint brush always worked for me.

Always used Kerosene myself. Works well, and the fumes make the process really fly by! :whistling: Please do so in a well ventilated area. :wavey:

Jeeez. What mags are you buying that are packed in Cosmoline? That stuff is just nasty and tastes worse than ear wax.

:ack:

I'll second this.

When I bought my SKS years back I tried everything, even baked parts in the oven to melt it off. There was aways some residual gunk left behind.

WD40 and an old cleaning brush broke it right up, though.

WD-40 will dissolve the gunk. Or brake cleaner. Or gasoline if you're truly old school.

+1 for the WD-40.
