View Full Version : Mk III Problem
Have a MkIII with TacSol top end. Three weeks ago it ran 700-800 rounds with no problems. Wife took it to a Steel match the next weekend and it wouldn't go off. I took it apart and cleaned and inspected everything. Looked good to my untrained eye. Yesterday I ran 3 mags through it, first two mags ran fine then third mag had 2 or 3 rounds not fire. Any ideas? thanks in advance.
sounds like a sticky firing pin. how much lube are you using? did you get lube near the firing pin on the bolt? i would disassemble the bolt and clean it with gun scrubber or brake cleaner.
i use ultrasonic cleaner so i'm about 100% there isn't excessive lube and I use HOS anyway so even if there is excessive lube there isn't really excessive lube. I'm thinking more along the lines of the firing pin needs to be a hair longer. I'm going to order a couple tonite and see how they work.
First I would make sure the firing pin isn't broken.
Are they any modifications made to the gun other than the upper?
Sometimes a lightened hammer can cause light firing pin strikes. If you have a lightened hammer try putting the original back in. Did you change the mainspring? If you have a lightened mainspring try going back to the original.
You could be getting bad ammo.
I used to shoot a ton of standard velocity Remington and stocked up on it when I found it on sale. I found out just how bad their QC had gotten after I had stored it a few years. I consistently run into about a 12-15% failure rate.
Pulling the bullets tend to show either no priming compound, or no powder. Rarely both.
guns stock except for top end. ammo is mixed and results the same in this Mk III and zero problems in my Open MkIII or 617s with same ammo. FP isn't broke. I ordered a longer one last nite, guess i'll be suprised if that doesn't fix it. Poster on BE told me he had exact same issues after a few 100 rounds and cleaning would fix it for a few hundred more.
