Does not look to bad of a job. That peenning tool would make or break the job.

The front sight tool is a must have!

I do not know if there is a staked on Big Dot front sight from XS.
I put them on several 1911's but they have been machined for the dovetail front sights.
Staking a front sight is not always a success even with the staking tool.
Plus it would be pretty hard on the vial and may even break it.
It is an easy job for a smith to cut a dovetail in your slide.
Doesn't cost much and it is the way to go for front sights.
The rear dovetail on the Mil-Specs is a normal G.I. dovetail so when you are getting the front dovetail done it is a good time to get a Novak cut on the rear also.
So much better selection of sights available after that.

Do you know of any gunsmith here on GT that could cut the dove tail?

I do not, though I'm sure there are people here who do.
You can google Gunsmiths or gun shops and there are plenty of reputable smiths on line.
Right now I just can't think of any...
I'll check in on this post tomorrow and if no one has helped you I will look up my records and see who it was that did the last couple of slides for me.
