Got a new shipment of critters for my nano reef in today, and the urchin promptly captured a red legged hermit crab.

You probably got a street urchin instead of a sea urchin.

It sat there until I effected a daring rescue and pulled it off. If I hadn't intervened it would have stayed there until the urchin passed close to a rock and it could either grab ahold and pull itself off, or simply got brushed off.

I gave them several hours to respond, but they must have been busy eating fish donuts and such. The nasty clownfish did bite me several times during my op, I suspect she's on the urchin's kidnapping ring's payroll.
