I saw an ad on TV pluggin Dirty Harry pictures, then it hit me like a brick. They could make a new set of Dirty Harry movies and Clint would carry a Guncrafter Industries 50GI 1911. Harry pulls that 50GI and the bad guys would crap their pants. Damn that's a hella good idea:thumbsup::supergrin:

Hugh Jackman seems a natural to me. Maybe the guy that played a young Clint in Space Cowboys.

If there was a fist-fight, he would take Clint in his prime.

And, he's got cooler guns.

The Smith & Wesson 29 had perfect aesthetic balance in the hands of Harry. Even a worked-up Glock would pale in effect. Leave us in peace with intact memories of cinematic perfection.

The 29 is a gorgeous gun, I was thinking it would be impractical nowadays.

A movie could still sell the. 44 for a detective I suppose. You'd have to have a range scene of course where Harry explains his choice and humiliates someone with a semi-auto.

How many others could only see Harry with a Model 29?

Permit me the temerity of chewing up bandwidth to illustrate the inherent difficulty of updating Harry's lines by equiping him with more modern weaponry. For my illustration, I will use my chosen firearm, the Glock 20:

I know what you're thinking. Did he fire 15 shots, or only 14? Is the slide forward because he has one round left, or did he unwittingly depress the slide stop with his offhand thumb. Or did he slip in a tactical reload in a 1.5 second period when he was out of my field of view? But seeing as this is a 10mm, the most powerful autoloading caliber in general circulation, the chosen caliber of the really dedicated caliber wackjobs on Glocktalk, and able to eradicate any evidence you ever existed with only one shot, you gotta ask yourself: do I feel lucky! Well, do ya, punk!

I believe this proposed monologue illustrates the problem of reworking dialogue in a proposed Dirty Harry remake.

That is a very good point from the Movie angle itself, but think about it from the perspective of GT itself. There was no internet in the days of the original movie AND S&W 29's were not well known or common. The movie changed all of that and added much to the reputation of gun and load, much of it exaggerated. Now can you imagine the flood of people that would fill this wonderful site, people vastly inexperienced, who would actually be able to lay hands on a Glock20? THE HORROR of people getting on the internet and exaggerating the capabilities and the power of a round like the 10mm is simply too much to contemplate. All perspective and respect for the round would eventually be lost as the unwitting tried to math the myths that would spring up.

I do not want to see the results when someone discovers that it generally takes TWO shots from the 10mm to stop a freight train...messy lesson indeed:shocked:

Lee Marvin used a S&W Model 29 before Clint in 1967's "Point Blank", but it was only the 4" bbl model.

Nay, sir. Nay.
We do not exaggerate about the mighty 10mm cartridge.

Depends on how far apart the two freight trains are.

If Train A is in Chicago and Train B is in Australia, an inexperienced, undisciplined shooter of the mighty 10mm may perhaps need two shots.

For the rest of us, one shot takes out 52 freight rains around the globe.

You have, admittedly unintentionally, profaned the prestige of the noble 10mm caliber.

The second shot would be necessary to stop the freight train ONLY IF the first shot was poorly placed. Even with the 10mm, shot placement is vital!
