View Full Version : Cheetahs in slow motion.
Truly spectacular animals.
It's amazing how rock-solid their heads stay!

They really coil up and launch on each step.
Crud. I meant to post this in the Caturday thread.

If you look closely, not more than one paw is on the ground for more than a split second. So pretty much only one paw on the ground at any given time.

Amazing critters, and while they aren't that big a cat compared to the lions and tigers, sure wouldn't want one chasing me around the parking lot at Wal-Mart !!:wow:
The only other animal that can come close to the speed of a cheetah is a Frenchman on Friday, leaving the construction site I'm on.
Impressive, but still not as fast as an Ethiopan chicken.
Had a African wild cat buddy as an outdoor cat that looked like it could move pretty quick.

That's right. Also look closely at the paws as they descend toward the ground. The claws extend for that little extra bit of traction, then retract as the foot rises for the next stroke. Phenominal!

Neat footage
Awesome!
On a side note, I wonder how many cheetahs have sack tapped themselves with their front paw. They get pretty close!

I feel like that cheetah has ate 5 or 6 full grown men. Must have been fast back in the day.

Had to delete the image....my computer was puking through the serial port!:wow:
That is one scary pic!!
Been a while since I took zoology, but if I remember right a cheetah has a stride of 20+ feet. Yeah...you heard that right, when they kick off with the hind legs, they cover 20 feet before the front legs touch the ground again.

I was looking at that as it took strides and wondered the distance. I know I had heard before it was greater than 15 feet.
Anyone else notice the head? It didn't really seem to deviate from its line. Remarkable creature.

Yeah, that's probably more amazing than the stride...the way they can almost completely isolate their head from moving while approaching 60mph. You're right, it is pretty remarkable.

Yeah I noticed the head staying in a straight line as well. Evolution is amazing. I love seeing the different traits that have come about in creatures over the millions of years.
Just awesome! Thanks for sharing!
