View Full Version : Real or Fake...do you have a preference?

...of course, I'm talking about Christmas trees.
We've always gotten real trees. I prefer the look and smell much better over fake trees.
What is your preference?
We went fake years ago. Too much mess getting them out of the house. Plus we have an old pre 1900 house, so if we had a fire it would go just about as fast as the tree.
I don't put up Christmas trees because I'm a lonely single man with no motivation for that kind of thing, but when I do reach the point in my life where I have a wife and kids who insist on a tree, I'm going natural.
Natural trees are a pain in the behind for little benefit. They're a pain to acquire, a pain to set up, and they sit there and rot. Then they're a pain to get rid of. But they smell good and my pride is at stake.

As long as they look alright, it doesn't matter to me if they're real or fake, Christmas trees or otherwise.
Real ones make me sick. Me and my dad found out we were allergic to cedar one year when we brought a ~14' cedar into the house for a Christmas tree.
I like the really fake ones. The fiber optic ones are my favorite.

Fake. If you want the smell a wreath or (I guess they sell spray smell) Otherwise needles for weeks, fire danger...

Real. Though good, expensive, well crafted fakies aren't too bad.
That goes for Christmas trees too.

I am also allergic. Even being around someone who has a real tree at home bothers me. This time of year, if I am going to someone's home, I will ask if they have a real tree. If they do, I won't go.
Real. I just like the way they feel. :)

Fake.
A tree fire in my neighbor's house across the street gutted the house and put him in the hospital.
Real trees burn like incendiaries.

In 34 years, I've never had a real tree.
Been married 12 years, and both of us have allergies, so we never risked it.
They smell nice, I'll give them that. :)

Fake looks good season after season; real...not so much. Trees too.
:crying: ...well I am disappointed with this thread.
I was thinking the same thing :rofl:
Once I get my own place, and a family, and motivation to do it, I'll probably start out real, and then get a fake one when i get tired of the mess and the expense. Real smells better, but sometimes the real ones look like crap, depending on a number of factors, and they manufacture the fake ones to always full look super full and pretty.

 So you're saying the fakes stay firm year after year. Good point.

Sorry...we'll wait until Mrs. VR is fully recovered before we tax her with a similar topic pertaining to non-tree items. Of course, she may be so drugged that she'll confuse this one and ban us anyway
P.S. Hope you're feeling better, Mrs. VR.

If I'm hosting Christmas, then I'll splurge for a real tree. Other than that, it's a small, fake tree, and I'll get that out in a few days.
I like real but they are a mess. Will get a fake next year. Fake is also cheaper in the long run and you get fake ones that look pretty close to the real thing. Just won't have that nice smell.

Real titties, fake trees.
Both are prettier than their respective alternatives.
Give me the real deal every time....even when we're talkin' 'bout Christmas trees.

Real.
It's easy enough for me to go out and whack one down and I can feed the woodstove with it at the end of the season.

We used to cut down a real tree every year - love the smell and it was a fun 'event' for our daughter. Now we buy fake - we have cats and wood floors. Enough said.
Not worth reading, but scroll down and look at the pictures. It's a two page pdf.

“The Christmas tree…where did that tradition come from? It sounds like the behavior of a drunk man. I can picture it now: ‘honey, why is there a…pine tree in our living room?’ ‘I LIKE IT…Tomorrow…We’re gonna…We’re gonna decorate it…for JESUS’”

When my wife insists that we have one, it is fake. I really prefer to avoid the whole thing, though. It's nothing against Christmas specifically; I just hate seasonal decorations. They're too much work for something I really don't even notice.

Not sure I get that one. I was making an attempt at a humorous reference to her recent car accident

Fake. The ones now come in multiple pieces for easy tear down and led lights. Just put on ornaments and you're done. Plus I don't have to worry about the animals drinking or eating anything. They love nature.
...of course, I'm talking about Christmas trees.
Like anything else, the fake ones have a better shape and hold it a whole lot longer.

Had real for years.
Fleepin needles everywhere. Within the first week, someoen forgets to water it and it's toast. And I like my tree up EARLY!
Invariably, I forget to put down the tree bag, too.
And when I do, the stupid stand is full of water that the tree won't take by the time Jan 1 rolls by. So water AND needles everywhere!
Can you guess I went fake 3 years ago? Prelit, fake tree. Goes up in 3-5 min. Wife spends a few more spreading out branches. No smell (which goes away within days anyhow) but it looks fine.
It's our ornaments we need a make-over on. I was looking at them today. Boy are they ugly. And not the "ones-made-in-kindergarten" type. Our REGULAR ornaments are ugly. Time to upgrade.
