We sponsor a float in our local Christmas parade and invite some kids and their parents to ride along and throw candy. This year my wife wanted a stereo system on the float to play Christmas music.

Just as I was about to start building one I stumbled across this:

http://www.ionaudio.com/products/details/blockrockerbluetooth

A portable PA system with battery power, AM/FM radio, microphone and bluetooth link to iphone/ipad/droid.

Reviews were good so I figured for $200 I couldn't go wrong.

Got it in and tried it out and am impressed! It projects sound pretty darn good, sound is rich and plenty good enough. Website claims 50 hours of music on a charge. I can't imagine a situation where I would need more than 4 or 5.

It has telescoping handle and roller blade wheels for moving it around. You can plug in the microphone or instruments. It has a solid feel to the construction.

After this parade I expect to get a LOT of use out of this thing. Check it out. I had no idea such a thing existed.

Try being without power for 6 days, then 5 days from a storm 4 days after you got power back. That would have really come in handy, especially during the cleanup efforts. Hell all the news we got was from one radio station.

I've been through hurricanes  But yeah, you're right.

It has a 12V battery in it. I'm dubious about how long the battery will last but I betcha if I crack it open I can replace it fairly easily.

It isn't high end audio but it is certainly good enough.

I think it will be great for sitting on the front porch in my rocker yelling at the neighborhood kids.

That'd be nice for a job site, well, for the ones that still allow music anyway.
Good price too.

Plus you'll have something to loan a certain Texan on the 21st, I bet it would be fantastic for doom'n'gloom spreading!

I've been keeping this thing in my workshop/gunshop to listen to tunes while piddling.

Then I wheel it out and use the microphone to holler at neighborhood kids.
