Just got out of a day long meeting. The last thing the boss said was that one of our fellow employees was texting back and forth with her boyfriend. Went a couple messages then it stopped. She drove up on the wreck where her boyfriend blew a stop sign in front of a semi and was killed.

IVe always avoided it because its a ripoff. Vzw always wanted a quarter each direction if u didnt have a plan. Last few phones have had some kind of internet or email ability and ive had that....fortunately the gateway allows texts to be sent from email and vice versa within the 160 char limit.

I think i have all texts blocked on my phone. Hate em. Only used when essential

Funny, 20 years ago i was a roaming coordinator for a cell company that had a presence in the Gulf states now owned by Century. In that era when texts were developed the industry only had 5% penetration. Its probably 95 now.

I still hate it, and refuse to participate in it unless forced.

There was a rather chunky girl who was texting and rolled her vehicle. She survived fairly unharmed, and was sitting on the grass texting about her experience.

I really don't understand the obsession.

On a serious note, I believe Hurricane Katrina is credited with bringing texting to the mainstream. As cell service went down calls would not go through but we could still get text messages across the network.

Of course then it all went down.

I like texting sometimes because then it's hard for people to overhear the conversation.

texting is also good for having "written" conversations with coworkers that you would prefer not cross the company mail servers.

It's also good because then you don't need to write down that address, or phone number, or whatever, because they can just text it to you, and you have it right there on your phone, whenever you need. Really handy when you don't have a pen and paper, or if you're bad about losing notes.

In years to come, I wonder how many people will go out on disabilty for "text thumb"?

I believe voice uses more bandwidth, tis why. Pretty low overhead on a data channel to move texts....why cell companies love it ....crack cocaine to the text junkies, charge hi rates for whT it really is and not much of a burden to handle it.

Infrastrjcture really was trashed in katrina but the real star of the ordeal was ham radio. They were passing traffic and news out of the area a day before anyone else.

Usually the people who play video games that much don't work anyways.

OR asking a completely inappropriate question and if it goes bad being able to respond "Lol just kidding" or "sorry my friend had my phone, I don't want to put it in your ....."

If I had texting in high school I'd probably have six kids by now.

What will you be wearing?

I didn't start in earnest until a couple of years ago. I think last year we got unlimited texting. . . now my daughter runs several hunnert a month and my wife. . . had 1500 last month. She had a "needy" friend. I cut that crap off double-quick. What she had was a blood-sucking leach that wanted to drag my wife down into the depths of her crap life with her. Orrrrr, no!
