As an initial test: divide the proposed shooting distance by the scope power (NOT the lens diameter). Take that result, set up a holed target at that computed distance, look at it.with your unaided eyes, and see what you can see.

One possible exception to my method: poor optics can produce a fuzzy image that is less useful than the one produced by quality optics.

Just wanted to know if someone has one can they see the holes at 100 yards???

My local out door range uses them. I can see .17hmr holes in the black bull at 100yrds, which can be difficult sometimes even through a riflescope.

I would think it depends on the quality of the optics.

If you will get a Kowa, and the light is "right", you can see .30 cal. At 600! (20 power)

Yes....if the conditions are right. If the mirage is bad not likely to see the holes. My 36x Sightron scopes are capable of seeing 22rf at 100 with no problems. A really cheap spotiing scope might not give you a clear picture.
