Make Ready With Paul Liebenberg: Gunsmithing The 1911 - YouTube

We take you to Pistol Dynamics where Paul Liebenberg walks you through how to customize a stock 1911 pistol. Paul is a trained Industrial Designer who has been a professional gun builder specializing in the Browning locked breach pistol platform for over 30 years. He was a member of the World Champion South African Practical Pistol Shooting Team, NRA High Master, certified four-gun firearms instructor and professional pistol shooter who competed successfully in many disciplines in the shooting sports. In 1983 he immigrated to the US and joined Pachmayr Gun Works in Los Angeles CA were he rose to manage the Custom Gun Shop. In 1985 he opened Pistol Dynamics in Los Angeles to build high-end 1911 competition handguns and Pachmayr pistols on contract to that company. Today Pistol Dynamics is based out of Palm Bay FL where Paul continues to build high end 1911 pistols.

In this 2-disc video Paul goes over every aspect of customizing the 1911 pistol so that you can tackle doing your own customizing. He shows the proper way to fit a barrel and barrel bushing, installing a grip safety and thumb safety, trigger installation, installing and tuning an extractor, installation of the ejector, relieving the mag well, undercutting the trigger guard, lowering the ejection port, and much, much more. This is a rare opportunity to learn from a master gun builder like Paul Liebenberg.

Wow, he was using a dremel like it was nothing:bowdown:. My butt hole quivers every time I use mine for some very minor grinding on a project gun:nailbiting:.

He's a fascinating man to converse with. I've never spoken with anyone more well versed & knowledgeable about semi-auto handguns. It's like talking to Einstein about physics.

I ordered it, so i'll report back later. I have the Wilson and AGI 1911 gunsmithing videos as well, so thought i'd see what this one is like. The other's have good info in them, but they are dated (they were on VHS)

I preordered about an hour ago. I hope the lighting is good and close up shots of what he's doing was used. I have another 1911 build video where you can't really see anything.

Now THAT"S what a PD should look like. Mine is nice, and shoots like a laser, but I REALLY wish it had those slide cuts and magwell.

Joe, you ought to send it down to Florida and have Paul fix it the way you want it. Call him and see what he will charge. You said you wanted to do work on it anyway.

Why not see if Paul can do it?

I just realized I lied in that post and just fixed it.

I got my PD at the end of 2009, so I've only had it 3 years. It was a 2 year wait time though. I ordered it at the end of 2007.

I honestly wouldn't send that gun for work to anyone else, unless its just refinishing.

Maybe Paul can do the work and then send it to his vender to be refinished. He may be a bit backed up, but I don't think you're in a rush.

You've got plenty of others to play with. ;)

Exactly, so you're killing two birds with one stone.

He'll send it to Chris and then Paul will reassemble it back at his shop and test fire it.

I think that's a much better plan than what you were going to do previously.

If I just have him cut in the slide cuts, install a magwell and install a new silver 3 hole trigger, he won't need to reassemble anything or test fire either. Even better.
