Gov. Bob McDonnell:" If people were armed – not just a police officer, but other school officials that were trained and chose to have a weapon – certainly there would have been an opportunity to stop aggressors from coming into the schools, so I think that’s a reasonable discussion that ought to be had. If you remember we went through that same discussion about airline pilots after numerous hijackings."

Virginia is kind of awesome sometimes.

Wow......... The application of common sense coming from a politician.

Y'all have a pretty cool attorney general (Cuchinelli) too. I get his email newsletter and I think we would be better off with him in office at the feral level.

It's men like McDonnell that make me wish we didn't have term limits for governors in Virginia.

I believe it did. It's always a swing state. And as we get more people in the cities, it is getting more and more democrat.

Stepping stone to the US Senate.

how do Virginians vote for a conservative for governor then a socialist for president?

A combination of factors, including
(1) 5 year terms greatly reducing turnout by the politically apathetic;
(2) nutjob 3rd party scams dilute GOP votes only in Presidential election years, making the lunatic fringe a non-factor in state and local politics;
(3) vote for the man, not the party nonsense encourages people to be independents instead of party activists;
(4) voter registration does not include party registration, making all VA voters independents, and with open primaries any voter can vote for any candidate.
(5) great conservative economy attracts unemployed libtards from unionized failed states, and these yankee carpetbaggers bring their entitlement mentality with them.
We tried to defend borders with a war of independence 150 years ago, didn't help and made it worse.
(6) state legislature is often 50/50, neither party ever gets a huge majority,
(7) both of Virginia's senators (effective next month) are not only Demonrats but former governors (Warner & Kaine)
and finally,
(8) right to open carry even in the capital while the legislature is in session.:supergrin:

Virginia remains in the front lines in the political war since Patrick Henry became our first Governor.

http://www.politico.com/2012-election/map/#/President/2012/VA

The cities and a handful of counties went blue for the presidential race yet didn't care to have a turn out for the gubernatorial race. I could tell you why that is but the map can't be argued with.

It's a Redish Purple State.

Take away Fairfax and Prince William counties and Charlottesville and the result would have been different.
